I figure that if I can get two tweets, two drivers, and two x-overs from Kaption for $138 Canadian that's a decent deal.

That price is for either the 5.25" or the 6.5" last year's model.

I figure I'd just get the 5.25 for the fact that they will install in the doors a little easier with a template.

Any ideas? Should I bother? I will be running them off the deck (for now) and want to know if they will perform noticeably better than my 6x8 3-ways.

Thanks all!

Brian

They should be more precise thanks to the external x-over. Whether or not they'll be louder depends on which speaker is more sensitive. I'd bet that they'd probably be able to reach a little deeper than the 6x8 triaxials.

BTW, 6.5s are just as easy to install as the 5.25s, so I'd probably go with the larger for a lower frequency response up front. I'd bet they're probably a bit more sensitive too, which would be a definite plus running them off the HU.

How would I go about installing the 6.5s? I thought I didn't have the room for them in the door... either the size of the speaker or the mounting depth.\

Any thoughts would be appreciated, as there are limited quantities available at that price!!

Thanks,
Brian

6.5s will install with a baffle, same as the 5.25s. The stock mounting depth is 2.75" and I've used up to 3/4" MDF as baffle material to increase the mounting depth to 3.5".

Just use your old 6x8s as a template and trace their outline on the MDF. Cut the appropriate sized mounting hole in the center of the outline for your 6.5" woofer. Then cut out the baffle, mount the speaker to it, and mount the baffle to the door. Pretty easy, maybe an hour worth of work.
