Hey fellas,
In the last two weeks my '95SE ATX has had the CEL come on. Add to that this week are the Traction Control and the ABS lights. Then to make matters worse, the engine cooling fan stayed on high and remained on even when I turned the car off and removed the key from the ignition. Now the car wasn't overheating since I had only driven around the block. I disconnected the negative terminal on the battery and I parked the car.
With all these sensors indicating problems, could the problem be:
1) a faulty computer
2) time to replace the EGR valve
3) 02 sensors require replacing
4) faulty engine cooling fan switch (which was replaced 2 months ago)
What is the cost of replacing the EGR and or both O2 sensors.
The car has 230000km on it and the driving dynamics despite
the warning lights remain the same.
Any assistance would be appreciated and thanks in advance.
Chris

No way to know until you pull codes.
Check the FAQ problems page for "Check Engine light" and go from there.

Isn't this likely a ground or switch problem? I am pretty sure that the ABS light comes on when it sees a control voltage that is too low.
I would solve the fan problem first and the other lights will likely turn off.

Thanks for the response so far.
I had a technician at a local Canadian Tire run a diagnostic check. The following codes was what he gave me
176 - lack of HOS switching
332 - insuff. gas received
225 - no knock detected
653 - Trans. control witch not switching
539 - A/C or Defrost on
the tech mentioned that I require a PFE sensor (EGR controller). Upon checking the FAQ's codes I don't see these codes. Am I getting a pile of BS?
Again guys, thanks for your assistance.
Chris

Have you had your car checked for the wiring harness recall? With the wide range of faults you have it seems odd that all these problems would crop up at once.

Yes, I had the wiring harness replaced. But that around 80000km ago. I had thought that this might cause all these sudden problems, but I'm still not sure. What makes things really weird is that last night I emptied the gas tank and managed 580km and today the car is running incredibly smoothly.
This car is a love hate relationship!
Thanks for the info Chris

For what it's worth, I had to have the wiring harness replaced twice (within one month) on my contour. I believe the 'replacement' is more cutting and splicing, than totally replacing, and apparently the first repair did not do the job.
