I just picked up my '98 se 'tour and it is an auto tranny and the way it shift sux. well i was looking through ebay when i found a shift kit for the tour. it clames firm shifts and no damage has anyone heard of this mod or did i just get took for buying it? by the way its a 98 se with 112000 miles and i paid 2500 for it did i get a good deal?

A shift kit would for a manual trans...No?
Try a superchip it will change the shift points for your trans.

They have shift kits for atx as well. Can you post a link to the auction? Let us take a gander at it.

check out the transmission forum, someone has one and it is very nice, and doesn't cost much more than $100,, i think from trans-go or something.

have a 96 contour, what is the super chip and how does it work, where can i get it ? will installing it lead to greater tranny or engine wear?

The chip will improve the ATX shift points and advance the timing. It's a chip that attaches to your PCM. 93 octane gas comes mandatory... Check the classifieds also. Try http://www.superchips.com (where else ??) The shift kits are not that expensive, but you have to pull the tranny to install it FYIR. Best to do on a rebuild along with a better torque converter.

is this worth it for a 4 cylinder and can you do a dmd mod on the 4 cyld?
what other performance mods can i make
do these mods decrease mpg, increase engine wear/tranny wear
96 contour 2.0, four cylinder, no mods, lookin to upgrade

A chip will most likely decrease your MPG slightly, but wont by itself lessen your engine reliability. For a 4 cyl, I would look at other intake/exhaust mods way before the chip. The ATX has much higher driveline losses than an MTX so performance (if we can call it that )is limited at best. Switch to 100% synth tranny fluid and check the Zetec forum for the best mods. (You can to a lot...) With the market price of contours these days, if you really hate the ATX, sell it and find a used MTX tour for cheap.

it is a chip or somthing. im really not looking for a lot of mods. just something to make the tranny shift harder. it seems to smoth or somthing it kind of glides into the next gear not shift. it says somrthing about its a simple 2 wire hook-up and takes 15 minutes. i paid 10.50 for it so if it doesnt do whatt i want i'll take it off.
