Then, the 3L heads will be raising compression like 2.5 heads on a 3L. And will they put in custom 37mm valves?? Modified cam profiles..if they got 229FWHP with the 3L then about 267 FWHP (320 HP crank) with similarly prepped 3.5L..

Well, seeing as how they will be custom pistons anyway (doing it with bore and not stroke just for conversasion sake), they could make the compression ratio what ever they want. Knowing Sho Shop, the new engine would require more head work and *need* more air flow too so head work isn't out of the picture.

Hummmmm... Ford Zetec rods would be a tenth of an inch offset grind... 1.9 CVH would be over two tenths offset grind...

Holy crap! Those guys are charging $2000 for a 3L now? That's pure highway robbery. What does a fresh block cost from Ford, $900 or so?

Does anyone think the following is worth $1100?

Originally posted by shoshop.com:
1. Each short block is meticulously inspected by our own experienced technicians and approved before modifications are performed, to ensure reliability and longevity. (Hah! They inspect it over and above Ford QC? What are they going to find that Ford missed?)

2. Oil drain back holes left open by 2.5L heads are filled/blocked.

3. Pilot bushing for flexplate is replaced with proper pilot bearing for MTX-75

4. Oil Pressure switch is retapped to accept the earlier design switch retained on your wiring harness.

Kit also comes with:

1. Complete Upper Gasket Set, including Head Gaskets

2. Complete Head Bolt Set

3. Rear Main Seal

That's a lot of profit margin. There are cetainly cheaper options out there, even if you buy and provide a 3rd party your very own 0 mile Ford block. And they are still missing the knock sensor retapping.

No, I think it's worth $300. That includes labor to put in new bearings and rings too!!! They upped their price by $500 over their previous $1499 to include the friggin $230 (list price) upper end gaskets -n- crap...

Doesn't ShoShop also give a ONE YEAR WARRANTY on the engine from factory defects? Doesn't that kind of make it worth it at that price?

3.5L! aw, yeah!

Everyone is assumeing that the 3.5 willmake huge power. Do we even know if the ports on the 2.5L head will support another 1000cc above stock?? The ports on the 3.0L head are quite a bit different from the 2.5L head. I'm pretty sure they also have more port area. I believe the intake manifold has larger ports also. The extra displacement will make big differences in power in the lower RPM ranges, but if the 2.5L can't support the airflow, then there won't be the huge gains up top where the peak power is. Not that that is a bad thing, just something to keep in mind. I now the 3.1L kits for the VR6 were BIG money when they were out. I think they ran in the low $3K range for a forged crank and pistons. I would expect to pay around $4K for the motor. Alot of money. As far as tranny questions go, the MTX75 is a pretty stout gearbox with a Quaife diff in it. It is a good sized tranny for a front wheel drive car. I wouldn't worry about it. Quaife has shown a little interest in doing synchromesh gear kits for the MTX75. There just hasn't been any demand so It is hard for me to push for a production run. Closer ratio gears would make a big difference in acceleration.

Close ratio gearsets would help the SVT engine greatly! I have never understood why the SVT uses the same ratio's as a non SVT, since the engine is built to have the powerband in a higher RPM range than a standard Duratec. Close ratio's alone would really help the low to mid range performance of the SVT.

I thought quaife did make the gear set for us when they designed one for the focus, it was just $5000 and I just rolled my eyes and went on. . .I saw this about a year ago in a Quaife ad, so check and see if anyone is inerested, I think they went to design with it. . .
