ATTN Guys!
The struts will bolt-in using EXISTING bolt holes, ie, NO MOD. IS REQ'D!
The correct hole to use in the HOOD, is the hole NEAREST the windshield (hood in closed position).
The correct fender bolt hole to use is the hole that is nearly inline w/ the radiator water fill cap, ie, the hole just past the rectangular opening, towards the windshield.
Mine are installed as described & are working GREAT!
If you need to talk to me for clarification, i may be reached @ ph. 864.281.4300. If not there leave msg & i will call you back.

Deltaman,
the simple bolt-in is nice. The original instructions in the how-to section use the ball mounts that come with the hood struts, and require drilling and tapping into the hood.
Demon,
I don't find the ball mounts causing any flexing on the hood. They do not cause any more strain than the ones described above.
I think that you may be referring to the fender flexing. For that I found a substitute mounting method at Pep boys that consists of a 8mm threaded clip that will clip over the fender lip.
teachertim My F-150 is a '01, but I believe that any built after '98 will use hood struts. The Hood Struts are NOT compatible. The struts called out in the how to section are the correct ones to buy. The compatible parts are the ball mounts on the F-150 that screw into a flange on the fender well.
Hope this clears up any confusion on my installation method.
Delatman, good research on the current issue of hood struts for the Tours'. the original method in the How-to does need some improving.
regards, david

LOOKS GREAT!
So was there any particular reason you didn't use the top bolt? How well does it stay open?
Also did you have to thread anything? Or did you just screw the ball into the hole. (After removing the bolt?)
Again looks great! Can't wait till mine come in!

With Top bolt on the hood, the strut will not collapse enoguh to allow the hood to shut, we tried it.
Install was a breeze, tighten the hood bolt that remains in, and remove te lower ones and insert the non-self-tapping screw in that hole. Remove the bolt from the fender, and insert the self tapping screw, making sure to use washers in both locations. Pop the end pieces on, and insert the clip.
The hood stays open great, they are not quite strong enough to open the hood w/out human help, but once open they do stay just fine. Closing is quite simple, just push down gently on the hood and guide it wo where you usually drop it to engage the hinge.
I also removed all the writing on them with some Chrome polish and some fine steel wool.
Got any other questions, drop me an e-mail.
