I'm getting a code 172 on my 95 Ford Contour 2.5 ATX. I know that's a bank-1 oxygen sensor going bad. But I have a couple of questions. What's the best way to get to that sensor? And can anybody give me the Bosch part # for that sensor? Thanks for any replys.

I was given a list of codes and what they mean. I was also give the part #'s. The sensors are the same aren't they?

what I have:
OE Type with connector before catalyst
13115

Universal without connector before catalyst:
15730

I am going through the same problem right now. My mechanic tryed to charge me 775 for the fix and has cleared the code and I don't know what it is exactly but he did show me the read out and it did specify o2 sensors.
How do you get at them? And which one of the above do we need? I'm guessing the OE for best fit and ease of install but you may know better. Let me know please!

Codes don't specify what part is bad. They specify what part is setting the error code. There is a go/no go diagnostic tree that goes along with each code. Find a good mechanic

The bank 1 O2 sensor is on the exhaust manifold by the firewall. To get a socket on it, you'll need to remove the coil pack. Get an O2 sensor socket from a car parts store for about $5. (It has a slot for the wires) There's just enough room between the firewall and the exhaust to get the socket and a thin ratchet/breaker bar onto the sensor. I found it easiest to reach while kneeling on the UIM. Break it loose, unscrew/unplug it, and put in the new one. (Use anti-sieze on the threads ) Put the coil pack and wires back in place and your ready to roll....

Oh yeah, the codes for the 95s are listed in the link on the FAQ section page.
