About 3 days after I purchased my 'tour. I decided to get keyless entry installed. The remote has the lock, unlock, and panic buttons, but no trink button, like most other ford remotes do. I read in the manual that it is possible to open the trunk with this remote, and if programed, you would just hold the unlock button for 2 seconds. I did, but nothing happened. I suppose that you have to specify . I wanted to know if there was anyway I could do it myself, or if i did go to ford, know what they would do to engage/enable the feature. If it helps, the FCC ID on the back is GOH-3BFM2497. And it takes a 12 volt, inch long battery, not the larger watch battery. Here is an image as well. . It looks just like this with a little wear, and the panic button is red with a white horn symbol. Thanks .

Sounds like you had an aftermarket keyless entry system installed. The trunk would only work if your car had an electric trunk unlock button. They are usually located in glovebox. If you had that then your system could have been wired to work it remotely. As you know our cars are equipped with a cable release trunk remote at driver's seat. Only the OEM remote entry has the required solenoid at trunk lock to allow remote operation from key fob.

You could retrofit a custom installation of course but I think that would cost more than you'd probably be willing to pay.

p.s. If you want to pursue, a post in the general mod forum might attract members who have done this particular mod and who can give cost and how-to info.

That sorta looks like a T-Bird remote I saw at work. Try holding down the lock or unlock buttons for a few seconds.

I don't believe it has a release from the glove box which is probably why it wasn't originally programmed. And yes, I think it is somewhat ugly, and big too. But its even uglier since the textured plastic has been rubbed smooth from wear and all 3 symbols have rubbed off . Although, I want to get a new remote soon because the remote is about as old as the car (July '99) and soon i will rub right down to the battery and circuits. I don't believe i will reprogram the new one. Just get a better looking one and replace the chips and battery. But it's not quite as ugly as the new tiburon remote. The unlock button is about this big... | | !

I love the remote for my mom's car, remote and key all in one! Although the Audi I looked had the coolest remote, built into the switchblade key, with the panic button built into the side of the remote, so you dont set the alarm off while taking the key out of your pocket ( )

excuuuuse me? That's also the remote I have. That's also the system I have.

You have the dealer-installed "System 1" remote keyless entry system. I seem to know a lot about it. For some reason the trunk-popping was an OPTION -- on both our cars! I've been trying to figure out how to get it to work, but I think it has to be specifically installed by the dealer. The stupid manual doesn't mention that it's only an option. Don't worry; it took me a while to figure out.

P.S. If you're looking to sell one of your remotes cheap someday I'd be interested. Ford sells them for $50 each and one of mine is broken (works intermittently; the other one works fine).

EDIT: Send me a PM if you're interested in trying to figure this out together later this morning. I won't see the car again until next Saturday after this afternoon, and I'd actually like to see myself if it can be programmed in or in some other way installed onto the system, though I highly doubt it.

Yeah, it does say "if available" near the trunk latch section of the manual. I don't even know why i bothered holding the unlock button for 2 seconds. Of course Ford didn't install with any specification. I had a feeling since when the central keyless entry "box" kept falling out near the pedals and hitting my feet, where i saw a little free wire hanging from it .
