Well I recently(last wednesday) got my windows tinted, and on friday this stupid cop pulled me over on my school parking lot for it. I got 20% all around. Anyways, he said that I can not have it that dark, and if I get pulled over again i'm going to get a ticket. I told him I would get it fixed to 35 in the front, but the tinting place will not fix it unless I pay them 70 bucks. I just payed 190 for it 1 week ago, and I called the owner of the shop and he said bring it in wednesday morning, I did and he happedn to be out of town. So I go pick my car up and it's not fixed, and this other guy in there tells me they are going to charge me for it. So I just left. My father advises I just not worry about it and when I goto school just keep my windows rolled down till I park, then when I leave roll em down. Other cops that my friend knows(he works at the police dept.) says they don't normally pull people over for just tint, rather bring it up if they do get stopped. My tint only looks dark when you are standing about 5 feet back and the sun is shining right on it otherwise you can see straight through it no problem. When he pulled me over i rolled all my windows down and he was being rude to me about it. Since he pulled me over in the parking lot, from what I understand, isn't legal to do so. I talked with my School Resource Officer about it and he gave me the guys supervisor. I call his supervisor last night, and left him a msg but he still has not returned my call. So my options are, keep it and wait till I get pulled over for something else(this was the first time ever getting pulled over), try talking my doctor into writing something that says I have sensitive eyes, or strip it and pay 70 bucks(which I really do not want to do). Anyone know the cost of a ticket would be, Or if there is a way to get a letter or something saying it's ok to have my tint? I just need some suggestions.
Thanks a lot!
mike
P.S. Sorry so long

I say keep it. I don't know about your state, but in Ohio 35% is still illegal and a tint ticket is $80. Tell that cop to [censored] off and worry about real criminals. He is stupid for pulling you over in the school parking lot anyways.

Edit: The letter is worth a shot, and also: "Father knows best". Both of you should go tell the cop to [censored] off!

Thats really sane advice....Ummmmmm IMHO Telling a police officer to [censored] off probably wouldn't help you get out of a ticket, but like I said, thats just my honest opinion

You should not expect the tint place to pay because you chose to get your windows tinted too dark. Strip the tint if you are scared of the ticket/police, I would just leave it on.

1) if you told the tint place to do it at 20%.....then don't expect them to change the tint for free. that would be ridiculous...and if they do, they're ridiculous.

2) if you told them "do it legal"....then they better damn pay.

3) i got pulled over in MA, a 250 dollar ticket straightened my arse out and got it redone at 40% sheets all around. (luckily, I appealed it and they let it go).

4) you could get your eye doctor to write a waver saying you're photo-sensitive and need DARK tint.....in that case I believe you go to your registry or something (i don't know the details in your state)

5) if the cop pulled you over already, you better not think he'll "forget" you cause you have your windows down.....once the weather gets cold and your driving around your parking lot with the windows down, he'll pull you over again and hand over the ticket.

6) Just get it done legally....ESPECIALLY since the cop now knows you.

just my $.02.

well I think I'm going to keep it. I move in less than a year, and my chances of getting pulled over are pretty slim. The cop only works at my school ever once in a while and if he see's me again, I can just tell him that the guy is was not around when I scheduled my appointment, and that he doesn't know when he can get me in. If all else fails and he does give me a ticket then I will strip off the tint in front of him before he hands me a ticket. I spoke with a police officer from where I work and he said that it was pretty rediculus that I was pulled over for that and he thinks that the guy profiled me because I dropped my friend off at school and then left. BTW down my street is a brand new G35 with darker than limo tint all around and half his front windshield is tinted. I"m going to take a picture of it and put it in my car and show the next police officer that pulls me over it and ask him why doesn't he stop that car. Also I'm sick right now so tomorrow I'm going to my doctor and am going to ask her about it. Another question, how hard is to actually tint my windows myself? my friends brother could do it if I payed him, which might be a last resort. Or could I just cut off a 4 inch strip from the top of the window and connect a peice of tint from the top make sure it's 35+ percent and when the cop scans the window that's what he'll read.
thx again guys

nothing like falling - and taking everyone down with you.

just to be clear - i think its ridiculous for a cop to pull someone over JUST FOR tint.....What a waste of time and effort. There are crimes going on everywhere where the city can use the cop's help.....but instead they pull people over giving young kids a hard time, profiling or what not.....I'm still a little bitter from my incident because I was going to get a coffee with my fiance - where the coffee place was in a bad part in town and my car looked "typical" even though I did absolutely nothing wrong.
However, I have come to realize, if I was a cop, I would suspect the same thing they did.....a car - dark tinted windows, likely to find trouble (although in our cases, they didnt.)
