Alright, just finished driving the car, let me see if I can describe this to you all...and we'll let the experts decide.
Here's the scenario...I'm accelerating, running each gear up to about 4k rpms. After shifting from 2nd to 3rd, the rpms drop to about 2.8k we'll say. Then, as I approach a stop, I push in the clutch and they rise back up to about 4k rpms until I'm almost at a stop, then they slowing decrease back to regular idle.
Is this throttle hang? Or is it something else? Let me know your thoughts, cause it's annoying when I'm rolling to a stop and everyone around me thinks I'm trying to race them.

And, is the best fix the one in the "How-To" section? With the copper pipe cap?

Yeah, it's the only fix. I recommend it, only runs about 70 cents. And easily reversible.

Sorry, but I don't agree with you guys. There have been a number of us who have had this problem and had it fixed a different way. Mine was fixed with a new Throttle Position Sensor (TPS). Others have had theirs fixed with a new MAF or MAP sensor, or the IAC valve. I think you need to have these other possibilities checked out too. I think the key here is that your RPMs actually GO UP and stay there for a while. Anything that causes the PCM to make the mixture richer can cause this problem. Though the copper fitting may work in correcting the symptom, it may not necessarily cure the actual disease.

It's not bad for the car is it??? I mean, if I don't rush out and get it done tomorrow, it's not going to hurt it, right? Just that everyone will think I'm anxious to race. It hasn't done it since yesterday afternoon, so that's been nice.

The above poster is right- if this condition appeared out of nowhere then something has broken- try to diagnose that first. The TH fix might work, but it would only be a band-aid, and might combined with the original problem cause other trouble down the line.

It is likely not a do or die situation. I had my problem for a number of months before I got it fixed. The engine racing problem got worse as time went by. I actually went to get another problem fixed and the fix for that problem cured the engine racing symptoms too.
