HAHA, dog you seen my car in person with 19's so you should know that 18's should not be a problem. Just don't go with a tire wider then 225.

No 225 are about 1/2" wider than 205.

No 205 has a shorter width then 225. That number is the width of the tire.. example.. 105,115 etc..

Stock: 205 / 25.4 = 8.1" wide
Wide: 225 / 25.4 = 8.9" wide
Viper Rear: 335 / 25.4 = 13.2" wide

It'll vary depending on manufacturer though, but it is a general index I guess...

Tire size example: 225/50/R15
225 = width of tire in mm
50 = aspect ratio (sidewall height to tread width)
15 = rim size

So, a 205 will be 205mm wide, and a 215 will be 215mm wide...etc.
Hope that helps.
P.S. tirerack.com has some cool info on tires.

ok then answer me this. why does people say that 215/40/18 will give u problems when a 225/40/18 will be less of a big deal. if 215 is smaller i would think that it would not rub the fenders. yet everyone says 225. please explain to my dumbass

98SVTCEGer - I don't think it's you who's misunderstanding...215 is 10mm narrower than a 225. If the rubbing is less common on a 225 than a 215, I can provide no explaination for that.

Well, you have to factor in ride height, the strut setup, and of course the offset of the wheel. I think if you run an 18in setup with 215/40's on 42mm offset with stock height and revised struts, you'll be okay. I think if you run 40mm offset, your car might shimmy a little (I wouldn't know, I'm just working the college physics here). . .I think the struts are a big issue, since Ford has a tendency to install supple, bouncy struts, and that'll lead to rubbing. If you've lowered your car, then I wouldn't be surprised if you rub all over the place. BUT, if you have good, sporty struts, you'll be able to clear those 18's. . .I guess you have to plug and play, problem is most of us on this forum are a bit budget concious, so there's only so much room to play, right?

Pascal's car, you can see it under the pic section, he just sold it, he's running 18X8.5's with 225's on his CSVT, no rubbing ever mentioned.

I'm going to try the OZ's when I have enough money: The Superleggera's with 215/40's, but I raised my car back to stock height since Houston has parking ramps at 40degrees everywhere (flooding issues), and I was scraping up the underside like there was no tomm.
