I'm lookint to slowly upgrade the performance in my car...eventually ending up with a turbo or a nitrous..what kind of mods should i start out with...pretty much i have about like figure around 300 bucks a month or so to spend on mods..my cars stock except for audio...would it be possible to maybe find a junked contour and use that engine to be bored and polished...someone i know said it would be good for around 40hp..any help would be appreciated...

Well you can do intake and exhaust. That should take up a month or twos allowance. After that there is chips, LSD, etc.... Lots of stuff to do with the Zetec.

2003 Subaru WRX some mods
Even if you don't have the answer, you certainly have to admire the problem.

Any of you know what the throttle body size is on the Zetec? Also, what is the size of the one on the SVT Focus if not the same will it fit on the Zetec Tour? Just an idea I had earlier, not even sure if it is really worth the trouble. If this question is more of a vehicle specific question refer to my sig. Thanks for any input y'all have!

yes its possible, but I doubt boring out the block would give 40hp, unless you dropped in a crower stroker kit, along with the rebore. On 300 a month you should actually be able to rapidly improve you contour. I personaly think think the intake tract and head have the most gains to yield over any other component. If street flight ever gets the Cold air intake on the market it will probably be the premier contour zetec intake, virtually eliminating the horrible heat soak our cars experience once warm. Underdrive pulley is also another good mod that can be done in your drive way and will not even take up half of your monthly tinkering money; a new valve train and head work will net you the most gains over any one single mod, but is much more expensive than your average bolt on. Good luck finding a place that sells the kamikaze anymore(zxtuner.com, where loco got his, has a new 4-2-1 header that they say can fit a contour, but they are not yet even being shipped and are already on back order for months), I agree with the hiflow cat, but skip the Borla SVT exhaust, the quasi-dual setup is just for aestehtics any way, and the Zetec doesn't need that much flow area, or the weight of an extra muffler. Get a brullen system or custom mandrel bent system(like me), and they are the proper size for a zetec and will probably give the most gains.

The SVT quasi dual showed a 3 hp gain for D Davis.

as opposed to a possible 6-8 hp gain for the lighter brullen system.
