turned my A/c on today...got really warm out, and i gave it about 3min or so, the usual time it takes to cool, but it was almost as warm as i have it with heat.
how much is it to recharge/recompress a/c? like some many $$ per pound, right? where could it be done at?

i bought the recharge kit from the local auto parts store. it came with a bottle R134-A and some cheap gauge. my air works fine now. if u dont have any freon then that means that it leaked out somehow (ah i love deductive reasoning) so u might wanna think of gettin the dye to put in too if ur gonna do it yourself.

FYI: R134a and freon are completely different. Freon is used on older cars. All newer cars use R134a. I'm not sure when the cutover was, but it seems to have been in the early 90s. Also, you can't buy freon yourself, unless you have a special license, whereas you can buy R134a almost anywhere.

Don't just automatically add R134A. Check the system out first. It might be a problem other than needing a charge, and if so, over-charging could cause more problems. Wal-Mart (and probably other places) sells a gauge for about $10 that will show you if you need to recharge the system.
Is the compressor turning on and off? Or not running at all? Or running all the time?
