i purchased a set of toyo 225/50/16 to go on a s-10 that i used to own. they are a great tire for dry traction but better in the rain. they were the fz4 model and run about 100 bucks ea.

In the GRM tire test a while back, the KDW and the Falken Azenis came out on top, with tires like the Kumho 712 testing favorably, but not at the top. The ES100's were just coming out, and not part of the actual controlled test, but the driving impression they offered is that they compared favorably to the Kumho 712, in terms of quietness etc. for a street tire.

So, think of them as a good street tire alternative to the Kumho, for far less money than the KDW, but not the greatest for autocross.

im running the es100's and absolutaly love them, there the best set of tires i have had ( 1 set of stock bfg's, 2 sets of avs intermediate) for the price they definetly beat the bfg's, and from what i remember grip better. they f'n grip like mad around turns, and im all about the turns. I dont really care about noise from tires so i dont really pay atention to that but i dont think they are very load. They are useless in the snow, strickly summer tires. dont know about tred life yet only got about 2-3,000 miles on them. but dont really care about tred life, just performance wich these have

i am planning on getting es100's in the 215/45-17. i have done extensive research on tires and these are by far the best tires for the money. excellent grip, tread life, and noise levels. on tirerack they compared all the tires in the class that the yokos are in and only two tires beat them, both of whick are more than $50 more per tire. they are an excellent choice.

What about those new Goodyeaer Eagle F1 GS-D3??? I compared them to the es100's on tirerack, they look pretty similar, only the goodyears are a max perf tire. . .UTOQ on both of them looks about the same as well, as well as the tread. . .they both look pretty nice, and look to be a lot quieter than the BFG's. . .

Anyone actually have them on a contique??

There is a store on EBAY selling the Goodyeaer Eagle F1 GS-D2 (not D3) in the stock 16" size for pretty cheap. $80 per tire IIRC

Isn't the treadwear at 220 for the GSD while 280 for the ES100.

GroupBuyCenter.com has a place selling the Falken FK-451 Located in So-Cal.

225/50ZR 16 92Y $77.90

225/45ZR 16 89 $87.95

215/45ZR 17 87Y $88.35

225/45ZR 17 91Y $91.10

Specs on FK-451

maybe i will go for these falkens then. Do you know what the tread life might be. I know some falkens wear pretty fast.

Treadwear ratings are pretty arbitrary, as there is no government or industry standard. You might use the rating to compare tires from the same manufacturer, but don't put too much weight on the rating when comparing tires from different manufacturers.

Well I went ahead a bought the Falken FK 451's this last weekend. I got them in 225/40/18 and I have to say I like them so far. They seem to hold great although i havent had much time with them. The Tread pattern looks nice and aggresive as well. Im not sure of how big the chain is but I went to AMERICAS TIRE DEPOT and I got these puppies mounted, balanced and installed for 599.98 out the door. Pretty sweet deal.
