Seeing as oil post gone,,i make new post...i changed oil this weekend...did not have to jack car up...tried using ratcheting filter wrench ..it bent the filter.... the band type is the only way to go.. my engine is running smoother now... i used Mobil 1 syn and motorcraft filter....do any of the performance filters fit our car such as K&N and how much better are they?

I use moble 1 oil with one of those Fram x2 oil filters wich can go 7,000 mi between oil changes. I change my oil every 6,000 with this setup and it seems to do just fine. I figure it is better than a Jiffy Lube job every 3k mi, cheaper too.

i waz planning on going 5000 miles with mobil1 and motocraft filter... it's says long life filter and it's longer in length than the carquest and puralotor filters made for the car....do u think i could go 6000 miles? i have close to 85,000 miles on my engine.

If you just use the drop in K&N you won't see any HP gains, although you will save a few bucks everytime you wash, re-oil and re-use the K&N filter. To get any HP gains you'll need to get a cold air intake. The Mobil 1 Super Syn is a good choice, it will definitely make your motor run smoother and quieter and you may pick up a few HP but mostly you'll get better protection from the high revvin motor. I usually go 3,000 between changes so I stretch my changes now with Mobil 1 to 5,000. If you go to WalMart you can get Mobil 1 in the gallon size for $18 or so. And yes DEFINITELY use the MotoCraft filter. I've heard too many horror stories about the Fram. Even though the local Schucks store counter girl was telling me that Fram makes MotoCraft filters. I said I didn't care, I've never heard of a bypass failing on the MotoCraft like on the Frams. Which translates into a total engine meltdown. The MotoCraft is $1 more, aint it worth it ? I think so, Ken

What's the part #? When I seach for products at K&N's site they only list an Oil Filter for the 2.5L.

K&N part # is HP2004. Works just fine. For some reason their book doesn't reference it but it works fine on my 96 Mystique Zetec
I believe the box does have a cross reference to other filters and it is the correct one.

try looking under focus or ZX2.... same motor and the above part number is correct.
