Thursday night on the way home from work the CEL went on. While nothing noticable seemed wrong I made and appointment w/Ford anyway to have it checked out. Well yesterday before I could get the code checked the light went off. Looking back on things the light went on almost immediately after driving through a thick cloud where road work was being done.

If the light has gone off is there still a concern or should I just forget it?

IF your CEL turned on it indicates that something in your system was working bad, in just one moment in your case,
if the problem disappears then the CEL turns off after a while, (the code is still in memory),
but if something failed the most probably is that it will fail again at sometime, you can drive your car without problem, just make sure that is the CEL goes back check the codes,

It depends! (Don't you just love definitive answers )

If it was something simple, like your gas cap was loose, then it isn't something that you need to worry about.

But it probably means that something is starting to go bad. If you go to Autozone, you can get the code pulled for free. This will put your mind at ease.

If it is something that is starting to go bad, you can make a decision about fixing it now (so that it doesn't affect other things), or leave it until it really needs to be replaced.

I would still have the codes checked. OBD-II will keep the code in memory even if the light goes off.

BTW - Go to AutoZone. They will check it for free! Don't pay Ford $$$ to do a 15 second job.
