Anybody ever had a problem with a leaky trunk?? I have a 99 SE. It seems to me the water is sneaking around my weatherstripping, but I took it to a dealer and they are telling me the tail light is leaking. I can't find a leak in the tail light...

Get a flashlight and a trusted friend and look for the water leak. Climb into the trunk with the flashlight while your trusted friend runs water from a hose all around the trunk and tail lights. Usually you can find the leak this way with a little patience.
Trunk seals can leak, and so can tail lights. It is all speculation until you test it.

I found a leak in my 95 contour which was in the trunk. Apparently the inter panal within the trunk has a retangular plug that fits into the panel to plug the mold hole from factory. The one that was there cracked and fell out allowing water to enter the trunk around the tail light.

i work at a ford dealership, and we've had a couple of contours come to us with a trunk leak. Each one was infact the tail-light.

My 95 Mystique leaked around the tail light. They replaced the weather stripping around the tail light and voila no more water dripping on my head when I reach in to get my groceries. This was apparent within about 6 months of buying the car new. Judie

Mine leaked at the fresh air vent box just infront of the tail lights. Pull your trunk liner back, it's about 6-12 inches infront of the tail light. To check it blast some water up in the vents (you'll see the slits just infront of the tail lights)

Get some of that black RTC or whatever and put a fine bead over top of back light assembly. Mine was noticeable shrinkage of that black seal. After black bead (no me problem) $7.00 at hardware store!
