Sounds like a timing problem to me. What engine do you have, by the way?
I think Ford service reps are instructed to not give a rat's a$$ and to drag their feet for as long as possible, especially when warranty work is involved (no kidding: I see big scuff marks around my dealer's service counter!). Must go through shoes a lot.

Almost forgot: check the catalytic convertor, too, and the rest of the exhaust. Don't know about you, but I can't run well if I can't exhale properly (I have PLENTY of experience on that, having asthma and all).

There are so many systems on these cars I will not insult you by trying to guess. My sugestion would be to buy yourself a code scanner and read the codes. That should get you started. What Ford told you is pure BULL****!!!

Sounds like it could be un-metered air (air leak around the Throttle plate).
Question, when you step on the gas (start form a light) do you have to “work” the gas peddle to keep it from stalling? If you do check the TPS.
Also a careful inspection of all electrical connectors, i.e. sensors, is a good idea. You may have a bad connection to a sensor.
hope this helps.

ok ford called me on friday and said that diagnostics came out fine and they are not sure what to think yet.. they need to put my stock air filter box back on so they can properly diagnose the problem???? soooo I took it in on monday to them.. they called me tonight saying that the IAC valve is bad and they want to clean the injectors and they want to get a new air filter box because i cut little holes in mine.. soo heres the pricing.. iac is 208 injector cleaning is 140 and the new air box is 260??? soooo Ill do the injector cleaning myself and I told them to just replace the iac valve and if I need i can get a used air box cheap off the website..... do you think any of these will actually cure the problem??????

I can see the IAC causing the bad idle, but the loss of power until high RPM, I don't see how the IAC has any influence over that.
I have seen alot of threads on this subject floating around the forums, I think it is a common problem.
My opinion, if you idle bad and have trouble making power even at high RPM then it is an air leak or a fueling issue.
If it were an air leak downstream of the MAF the O2 sensors would be sensing a lean mixture for the ammount of air being detected by the MAF, the computer monitors for these types of disagreements and when they occur it sets a trouble code or turns on the CEL.
Change your fuel filter, put some dry gas in your next tank and see if the problem goes away, if not then I would suspect a problem with the fuel pump not making sufficent pressure or the fuel pressure regulator not allowing fuel pressure to build up high enough.
clogged exhaust system is not likely becasue it would have to be seriously blocked to make the car have trouble idling.

Hey this may bee too late but i have 95 mystique with 2.0 zeetech. my car did somthing very similar to that and of all stupid dumb ass ford things it could have been it was spark plugs. See the zeetech and i imagine the duratech also runs on a plug with special restinace so if you have perfomance wires and plugs that are not licensed by ford that could be the problem. I fixed with distrubiutor form Accel may be thats propblem. all i know is these cars can impossible to figure out when somthing like that happens. Peace
