Ford wanted $50 for a shift indicator bezel. No thanks.

So is there any better alternative to the $17.50 APC Shift Boot at SP Motorsports. I don't really care as long as they come in grey or black. How much is the Ford one? TIA.

This is confusing. Do you need a boot or a bezel?

Bezel is for automatic transmission (PRNDL)
Shift boot is for manual transmission

If your ATX bezel is bad, you can probably find one at the junkyard. Be super careful removing the ATX shifter knob, it will be hard to pull up after removing the screw and pop up with some force, ripping the wires from the O/D switch (been there, done that). It's easily fixable with some wire and a soldering iron, though.

Either one can be bought from Bill Jenkins, though.

Or you can do like me and get creative and make one. But don't ask. I'm not making any more...but if you ask really nicely, I might just let ya in on how to make one. Send me a pm or something if you're interested.

James' boots kicked ass! Too bad you all missed out on them.

It looks good.

I had to refurb the bezel on the '96 a few years ago after a coffee spill. Not fun, it isn't all that sturdy.

That's why I made one and slapped it on there because the indicator broke. That's not the one that's on there now though, that is the first one that was ever made, the new one is designed a bit different, w/ fancier stitching and better quality vinyl that actually matches the e-brake. Plus it also is secured up higher on the shifter now and really looks authentic.
I have had people ask if it was 6speed before though. lol

You would think.

I have AT$#(%*&#, but my friend snapped the indicator strip in two because I apparently was not babysitting him at that exact moment. I don't really need it, so a shift boot is a much cheaper alternative. I just need something to cover up the hole that the indicator strip used to occupy. I guess I'll get the APC sometime in the future.

I'm making one as we speak, but noe one that covers the whole thing, that looks cheap IMHO. I'm making one that fits in the hole around the shifter, and I'm cutting out that weird little roundish thing in the top of my shifter, and making a custom wood piece for it in wood shop

I've seen cheap vinyl boots at local stores. Pep Boys, and I think even Wal-Mart had some.

No U-pull-it type junkyards in your local area? Usually, small parts like the whole bezel assembly are $10 or so.
