Contour Enthusiasts Group Archives Forums Modifications 3.0L Duratec Quick Question.

Will 98 SVT cams work with the 01+ 3L Duratec? Heard different thoughts on cam gear size and what not, just wondering if somebody can spell it out in a few sentences of if it will work (drop in) or if something else will need to be modified in order for them to work correctly?

No modifications necessary. Use all of the timing components from the engine with the 98 cams (large pitch 3/8"). The 01+ 3.0L Duratec will have the smaller pitch (8mm) cams and associated timing components.

Read my post here a few times and you'll get it. Let the cams dictate which set of timing components you use.

Thank you.. Does my 00 cougar built 12/99 have the larger or smaller or larger pitch timing stuff?

like i mentioned on NECO, my only real concern would be different cam lobes for primary vs secondary valves, whereas the 3.0 has a common port in which the primary and secondary valves work in perfect sync...
