I own a 98 v6 contour and lately it has been acting up. A few times when i have put it in reverse (morning mind you) it is as if it is neutral. When I am on the freeway, the RPMs hang around where they would be if overdrive was on?!?! Also, I often cannot push the car past 4500 rpms, its acts as if a governor was on it. What the freak is going on. I have checked tranny fluid so that is fine. Any help is very much appreciated!!!!! Thanks

I don't think it is your transmission that is causing your problem.
It sounds like it could be the Neutral Saftey Switch.
This is mounted on top of the transmission.
If it is loose or broken, the PCM won't know the correct position of the transmission gear selector, and will cut off your spark at over 4000 rpms.
