1995 4 Cylinder Contour @92,000 miles......My AC kind of sounds like a loud cricket.....EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE.
Best description I can think of.

I am suspecting I need a new compressor and clutch plus a system flush to vacate any debris
that accumulated during failure as I suspect compressor is coming apart.

The Air is cold and constant so far.....Am I on the right track or is it something else?

Should I only buy a FORD replacement or is any auto parts compressor/clutch good?

Anyone know mechanic's time on the replacemant?

Thanks

The high-pitched sound might be coming from your serpentine belt. If it is old or loose, you probably need a new one.

hey bones,

I had a similar problem last year with my '95 GL, don't know if the sound was the same (the cricket describes it pretty good though) but for me it was the compressor clutch. Dealership said it was my w/p bearings, didn't believe then so I took it to a private garage. They tested all the accessories with a stethescope-like tool. After diagnosing it and giving me the estimate I decided I could do without A/C so I bought a belt for the non-A/C option. Crickets went away!
