seriously, easy fix, go the the salvage yard and wander around a contour, pull out the clock from the dash and unplug it's pin. Problem solved. oh, pay for the part too!

Nevermind. I'm a moron. Turns out I had put the bulb in upside down. All's well (talk about embarassing)

It's malfunctioned (shorted) and it's days are through.  My dad is going to try and replace it, hopefully it will work right for this application. We'll see. just seems kind of silly to throw it away and get a new one when it might be fixable.

Yea!!! My clock is fixed!!! Here's a link to show what my dad did to get it lit up again. clock fix the cause-- a fried tansistor.

My clock is also not illuminated. Ok I will replace the bulb. But, I have a 95 Mystique. It looks like the whole plastic trim piece around the clock/ speedo/ gauges has to come off. There are 4 screws on the inside bezel around the gauges. Do I take those out and then the whole plastic bezel falls away? I have not noticed any other screws.
