Good day all,
I am wanting to replace my pads on my 2000 contour,
but I am pretty clueless when it comes to cars. I was wondering if anyone knows if there's literarture on this.

It's pretty easy.

You just need to get the calipers off to replace the pads. Two caliper slide pins are all you need to get off. They are the ones inside the rubbery/plasticy bushings that stick out the back of the caliper with the caps on. Pop the caps off and remove the pins with either a T45, T50 or 8mm allen, depending on what you car came with. Remove the caliper spring from the front, pop off the caliper.

To get the new pads on, you'll need to retract the caliper, so take the cap off the brake fluid reservoir and use a c-clamp or large adjustable pliers to push the caliper piston back in. Put the new pads in and put it all back together. Pay particularly good attention to how the caliper springs were attached -- almost everyone gets them back on wrong and you'll have no pedal pressure if you do.

The rears are a little different -- just don't try to push the piston back in -- it requires screwing them back in with needle nose pliers.

Ask questions if you need.

Don't forget the springs ont he outside of the caliper!

And only do one side at a time so you can use the other as a reference! This is a general rule of thumb for working on cars. If you have a refernce keep it in tack! Takes the guess work out of it!

9/10 people who complain of mushy pedal problems afterwards did not install the springs correctly!

Andy W. The problem with America is stupidity. I'm not saying there should be a capital punishment for stupidity, but why don't we just take the safety labels off of everything and let the problem solve itself?

And do only one side at a time. I'm sure most who did have a mushy pedal had both sides apart.

I've sent many of them this picture:

Take your time with that *#@##$A#$ clip. I have some nasty memories of replacing it.

That is a no beer job IMHO because you really need to be sharp to get that sucker in.

Other than the clip on the front calipers it is a easy job.

my calipers are a little different than those. the feet on the front of the caliper are longer on mine. i don't know why Ford didn't not know that.
