Say folks, I just saw a post in one of the other forums regarding spark plugs. The statement was to the effect that plain old Platinum plugs were not the best way to go for top performance in a duratech, that double or quads were best. What about this my fine Touring Friends, did I just waste $36.00 last month? mike

Double Platinum, meaning platinum on the electrode and on the ground. Not +4, or whatever you meant by quad.
It isn't for performance, it's for plug longevity. Without double plats, the plugs will wear quickly on any "wasted spark" ignition system (which we have). Especially the rear bank from what I hear.
If you didn't put double plats on (Autolite "Platinum Pro" for example), then you may have wasted $36. But at $6/plug, you'd better have double plats or you got ripped off.

I get it I thought they were referring to the # of electrodes, not coating. I believe I'm ok then since I got the Autolite stock plugs. Thanks a lot. mike

The debate was whether plugs with more than 1 electrode were good or bad for our engines. Everyone agrees though that double platinium is a good thing.

The V6 engine has 'split ground' sparking between banks. One bank fires center to ground, the other is ground to center. This is the reason the 'service' plugs are double -plats.In the plant one bank has doubles the other single.....

What is the brand name for the NGK double plat plugs? I saw three levels at the supplier today, the top grade being the "Iridium" and the middle grade just saying platinum...
