Hey guys....just figured I would jump in here...

Two weeks ago we were doing some dyno testing for our business (DuratecPerformance.com) and we had some extra time. So both Joel (My business partner) and I were able to hop on the dyno to do 3 runs each.

My Mods:

KKM Intake
75mm ProFlow calibrated for 19lb injectors
SVT TB
SVT UIM
SVT LIM
19lb injectors
MSDS Headers and Y-Pipe
CarSound High Flow Cat
2.5" Mandrel bent exhaust with single Flowmaster 40 Series Muffler
Diablo Chip

His Mods:

Injen Intake
75mm ProFlow Housing (stock guts used)
SVT TB
SVT UIM
Diablo Chip

My high HP for all three runs was 162.1hp. This was with my very heavy 18" rims, which I feel cut my HP figures down by at least 10hp. I will find out for sure when we go back to the same dyno in about 1-2 months, and I use my stock 15" rims and tires.

As you can see, the chip really didnt add anything to the top end, but did help in the low and mid range. Joel's high HP number was around 152hp, so 10 less than me. He had no exhaust work done at the time. He has since ordered a Borla Cat Back and will be installing MSDS headers soon as well. If he can get them on before our next dyno day, then this should be a great test of how much power a full exhaust really does help our engines.

Before the next dyno day I will be installing an extra exhaust bung so they can hook up the wide band O2 sensor more easily. We are also trying to get our hands on a MAFterburner for tuning the A/F ratio with. With my 15" rims on and with tuning, I strongly beleive I will be over 170whp and might even be close to 180whp.. I guess we will all see.

Hello,

I just wanted to chime in here with my dyno run.

Car: 98 Ford Contour SE w/ 100k miles

Mods at the time:
KKM
Gutted pre-cats
ShoShop y-pipe
Dynomax ST muffler
Cleaned UIM/LIM

Dyno numbers: 160hp, 157tq, runing real lean 13.9/1.

Addition mods now:
K&N 9" filter
19 lb injectors
SHM Mafterburner
2.5" custom mandrel bend exhaust
Dynomax Ultraflo resonator and muffler

Dyno number: TBA, not going until October due to funds.
I hope to get 170hp and 165tq.

I wonder how much the headers will do for me, probably very little. I want the TH ST200 UIM, but funds are low.

IMO 18" rims are not going to make that much on a difference on a dyno unless the rim/tire combo is tremendously heavier then stock.

The extra weight of the 2 spinning rims will definitely be noticed, but not as drastically as when actually driving the car. (4 rims, actually pulling the car, etc)

Also if the rims are larger in circumference then stock it will actually slightly raise your numbers (taller gears = higher dyno numbers - shorter gears = lower dyno numbers) compared to an equal weight stock diamter rim/tire combo.

I do think ~170FWHP is good estimate if the smaller rim/tire combo is that much lighter...

Either way 160+ FWHP is a good showing for a normal Duratec...
The torque seems a bit low for a normal Duratec IMO...
I'll agree that is likely the heavy rims rearing their ugly head! (large, heavy rims suck IMO!)

I am guessing that those rims are costing you at least 10hp.
I am runing 15.3-15.4 1/4 mile times and you are dynoing equal hp and 6 less tq.

Hopefull I will be able to get to a lower elevation 1/4 mile dragstrip before the season ends out here in SoCal. Before I do go to the lower elevation track, I will return to my home track at 3000ft elevation where I ran a personal best 15.77 last June. If I can get my times at this track down to the low 15's, then that is good for high 14s at the lower track.

As far as the dyno...i agree... I am just speculating on the HP gains from the lighter rims. I know that my 18's package weighs about 15 pounds more on each rim than my stock 15's and tires.... I should be getting back to the dyno in October sometime, and this time around I will have my 15's on and I will get some A/F readings to see if i have power to gain. 12.5:1 is the ideal ratio, and when I finally get my hands on a MAFterburner, then i can tune it. We are going to be selling the MAFterburners soon, but we want to do some tests on various cars before we tell people they are the greatest thing since sliced bread and try to take their money from them!! hahahaa

Good luck in Oct. I'd be interested to see how the MAFterburner does on the dyno.

WOW! In that case those numbers are very good! 15lbs per wheel combo is a huge difference. Man I hate large rims...

I was running 15" steel rims at the dyno. I have E0 rims now. I hope it doesn't hurt me too much.

The days don't go fast enough, the paychecks don't come soon enough. October seems like it will never come.
I want to clean everything again and have an UIM from Terry H here too, but, that will put me back to November.
