Then stop your freaking whining you little girl and trade your Contour in for a Cod D@mn Mustang or Camaro, you are starting to sound like a woman "biatch biatch biatch" but not doing anything to actually fix it!!!
There, I feel better, just had to get that off my chest!

When I went to WV this summer I got 30.2 going down there and 29.8 coming home. That was going 70-75 mph with the cruise and A/C on. Now as far as "everyday" mileage I get anywhere from 22-25 mpg. Hope this helps you out. Oh yeah one more thing I run Mobil 1 in my car and use waterwetter so my car runs nice and cool, alot cooler than every SVT I see out there. My gauge is 1/8-1/4 if it were a gas gauge!

man, i WISH i could get 22-25.
i also run Mobil 1 oil.... but i havent added the water wetter you mentioned...
when i recently drove from michigan to arizona, i got the best mileage when i drove about 65-70, and very poor mileage when i went anything above that...
i guess i would feel better if i could just get everyone to agree that CONTOUR FUEL ECONOMY SUCKS ! ! ! ! !
thanks, i feel better already.

Your cars state of tune is very important and check your air pressure in the tires. Remember that for every 10 degrees of temperature change the tires air pressure changes too, keep that in mind

Bullit18,
This is a problems forum. A fuel efficiency of 18 mpg would be considered by most people to be a problem with a car built in the last 10 years. Why are you posting such a dumba$$ reply? Loser.

I quite happy with 23-25mpg and a lead foot. (heck last fill I had 24.2mpg and it had several track passes on it plus the fast drive there & back!) Also 30mpg on the highway!
I suggest you have you car looked at by a knowledgable person. Something is DEFINITELY NOT right here!
You just seem to want to complain, but not really do anything about it...

DemonSVT, if the consensus is that "around 20 mpg" is normal for our 4-door, wimpy engine, front wheel drive cars, then, YES, i simply want to complain... and have others join me.
you are correct (somewhat) in what you say about me not wanting to "do anything about it" but only such that i see nowhere to go with it! the air filter is new, the tires are new (and adjusted properly), the oil is synthetic (and new)...the only thing that is NOT up to date on it, is the fuel filter.
now, dont get me wrong, i understand that it could well be the problem.. but i highly doubt it. as long as there is sufficient fuel pressure and flow, the economy and power should be OK. right? and if there want enough pressure or flow, then there would be driveability problems and/or a check engine light... right?
as for spark plugs and transmission filter... i havent changed either. (at 48,000 miles now) what do you all think about that?

I would say that something is definitely wrong.
Are you sure that someone isn't syphoning out fuel at night? Jsut thought I would throw that one out.
My gas mileage in mixed driving has held steady at around 25 mpg. The highway runs from 28 - 30 mpg (70-75 mph).
Good luck on your rant and I hope you find the cause of your plight.
David.

Let me know if you find the cause of your problem... I'm in the same boat...I get about 220 miles per tank. Everthing has been checked out already except oxygen sensors but I'm not getting any CEL coming on...
