I have what I think is a good idea for a cold air intake setup, but would like some help developing it, as I am not sure how to get parts and such.

I will describe, and see what you guys think!

OK, replace the rubber hose thing from the UIM to the MAF with a pipe. MOVE the MAF to the fender, bolting the MAF THROUGH the fender, with an air filter adapter attached to the other side of the fender. The part I am having trouble with is the pipe from where the MAF used to be, to where the MAF is now. It think it would have to be solid, but with at least one flex point to allow for engine movement.

My second concern is finding an air filter that will fit in the fender, and them from there it should be fairly easy to route a semi-ram type setup up from the front bumper area.

Just as a side note, the MAF works better the farther away form the engine it is, so this may add more than just cold air improvement to the engine, but just slightly, I dont expect any serious power gain, but I think this is a great way to ensure you are getting plenty of cold air!

Let me know what you guys think!

Hey, sounds like a good idea. Look up Keyser from the SW forums. He's the guy w/ the turbo ( ) and his intake goes into the fender well. He'll be able to give you some pointers.

Yeah getting the pipe to the fender will be your hard part.
Very limited space with a 3" pipe. You should also look into coating the intake pipe with Jet-Hot or someone. See my webpage with a CAI prototyped by Injen Technology and later ceramic coated by Jet Hot. BTW the Upper Intake Manifold is coated as well.

Coating is not as expensive as I thought it would be, like Extrude hone for instance. (Expensive)
Anyways if anyone wants to get a quote or actual work done ask for Todd Beiswenger @ (800) 432-3379 Ext.112
There located in Tempe, Arizona.

Jet Hot will decrease any heat by 25-30%.
So you can see how this is needed for parts such as a CAI or even an aftermarket Y-Pipe. I think everyone found out soon enough the Y-Pipe was raising the oil temps way to high. Just so you know how good it is your able to touch the Y-pipe after running the car. (Quickly of course that is)
So that where later on I had the idea to not just paint the Upper Intake Manifold for looks, but even better when it functional and looks chromed.

Hope this helps!
And if you do call let him know Anthony Mata from CA sent you, he will give you a good deal.
