Its a purge canister,it collects the vapour from the gas tank and bleeds it into the intake manifold,emmisions related component.

Careful! You can't just get rid of it, not without some kind of rewireing mod.

I relocated mine, in preparation for cutting out the bottom of the spare tire well. I'm going to have a sheet metal "box" welded in below the car there to enlarge the volume of the tire well and use it as the enclosure for my subwoofers.

Anyhoo, I had relocated it, remade the wires and hose connections, and went to start the car, and it would not start. Turns out the wire connection was not making good contact. When fixed the car started right up. Apparently the 'puter expects to see something there, and won't let the engine start w/o it. confused :rolleyes:

It also needs to be kept level as well.

What do you mean it needs to be level? Mine has been sitting crooked ever since I bought the car. Thanks for letting me know what it is though, I always wondered what it was!

Should be kept at the same height relative to the gas tank and horiz,care if you move it as if fitted/located incorrectly will fill up with gas (the liquid kind!)and ruin performance etc when it goes to 'purge' mode.
