Unreliable from the mouth of the guys who helped design it-

and to boot- they are no longer activly makeing parts for it- so- a new motor will set you back around $16K

Also the Yamaha V6 can be made to have 500 + HP N/A with a set of wicked cams- it has the bottom end strength a duratec family engine could dream of!

oh and where did it come from?- its a duratec V6 with two extra cylinders- its also a 60 deg. V8 - very rare

Drop in the 3.2 with the 3.0 heads. Wicked combination. I know of one guy with a Gen I running that combination, NA, no nitrous, one well lightened car running mid 13's. Good combo.

the 3.4l was made by ford for the 96-99 Taurus SHO's only, they tryed to copy the yamaha design and failed. The 3.4 is an over rated motor a 96-99 SHO is slower than my stock 94 SHO. On top of that the V6 was made to last much longer my 93 SHO has 160,000 miles on it and it still runs like new, the 94 has 110,000 miles and it also runs like new (except for the tranny, which has been replaced 12 times). Like someone else said they stoped making parts for the V8 but they (being Yahama) stoped makeing parts for the V6 also, both of these motor will cost some cash. And one more thing the intake on the V6 SHO's just looks a hell of alot better than a V8.

they did?

Ford never tried copying the 3.4L v8 design, as since its based off the 2.5L, how could they have copied? it was always going to be a joint effort between the two.

Yamaha had no part in the makeing of the 3.4l V8... I don't know about it being based on the 2.5 I've never heard of that. I do know that Ford was impressed by the Yamaha V6 but they wanted more power for less money in 96, that's why they dropped Yamaha and designed there own v8 that would fit in the Taurus, that saved alot in shipping costs alone.

do some more research...Yamaha had a big part in the heads.....and it was based off of the 2.5L why do you think they share so many of the same features...

The last gen SHO had a 3.4L V8, tis true.

I do believe the LS and T-Bird have a 3.9L V8, but who's counting.

I've done alot of resreach on SHO's... I own two and spend all my free time reading about or driveing SHO's and from everything I've read yamaha did not make are help make anything for the V8. What I have read is that Ford copied Yamaha's V6 when they made the V8 and that is why the intake looks how it does. bottom line no matter who made it or who helped the 3.4L V8 sucked... I'll stick to buying 89-95 V6's. I'd like to see a 3.4 v8 with 300,000+ miles on it.
