I haven't heard much bad about Fram filters. My question is, can I use the heavy duty filter? There are four types and this is a step up from the bottom one. It has a 98% single pass rate and 96% multi pass, compared to the others 96% and 94%.

Here are the Purolator Parts numbers for the 2.5L Duratecs. I use the Mobil1 5W30 SuperSyn Formula in mine. It likes 6 quarts as opposed to the 5.6 quarts it's supposed to carry. I get better overall gas mileage and a heck of a lot lower running temp. Gas mileage is NEVER less than 24 MPG in the city, so it must be helping out a lot.

The last time I heard, Fram's heavy duty filters use some of the same cheap crappy cardboard interior parts that their basic filters do.

I've been using a Fram for 16 years. I may consider changing after hearing all of this. I use Castrol oil and get 26.7 MPG out of my Duratec no matter what. I don't jack up my car (SE, not lowered, no suspension mods) when changing oil.

i will be changing oil soon.. i have like a couple hundred miles more.. so the plan is to get the motorcraft filter and mobil1 5w-30 syn.... i have no jack stands or ramps and figure i probably will need to get it up some... can i just jack one side up? (i can right) i can put wood to support car if it happens to fall...any more tips.. this will be my first time changing oil myself,, though i've seen in done on other cars.

I can't believe the effort you guys go through in changing your oil just to avoid taking the wheel off. I've done over 20 oil changes on my tour over the past 3 years and every time I take the passenger wheel off, I've now got the change down to about a 20 minute job from tire-off to tire-on. Also, with the tire off you can put a peice of cardboard bent in a V-shape under the oil filter and direct it down in front of the A-arm to channel the oil into the drip pan. I barely ever get even a drop of oil on the boot, frame etc. All this and I don't have to twist my arm and wrist out of shape!
