Do I have something wrong with my ATX or is it just an engineering problem? My ATX takes about 3 seconds to get into gear from a stop. It does this in both R and D. I changed the fluid to Mobil 1 and that seemed to make it a little better but not much.

From your description, it sounds like the problem might be either internal pump or pressure related. Best to get professional help. Cheers!

Depending on how well the trans was taken care of before you bought it it may not be able to be helped eek Preventive maintence is a #1 priority, case in point, we have a 1997 GMC Safari that has 315,000 miles on it and has the original trans. I have the trans serviced every 30,000 miles and theres the proof...315,000 cool

I bought the car with 6K miles on it and have Mobil 1 ATF changed every 35K miles. Its done this from day one. From Park to Reverse or drive it takes about 2-3 sec. to pop into gear.

I seem to remember a post from a hundred years ago that mentioned something about resetting the computer to cure strange shifting problems...Forgot who posted it tho...

I have a 98(.5?) atx 4 cyl. I experience varying delays from the time I hit the "drop out of" or "drop into" overdirve button and the time that the transmission actually does what I tell it to do.

It's an annoyance. Is this normal ?

Should have gotten a manual trans.
