Last year I came upon a posting with pictures on how to construct a wooden ramp made out of 2x10's. Unfortunately, I lost the plans and am wondering if someone remembers the details or has a copy of the posting that could be shared with me and the other members.

I made some.

I purchased 3 8' 2x10's

One of them I cut in half, or about 48". These were the middle sections.

I cut the other two to create a 36" and 60" piece

I then used the 60" piece as the bottom. Then the 48" piece and finally the 36" piece. I had some 2x4's lying around, so I cut them to fit the top and act as stop at the end of the ramps.

I just nailed it together, and it has held up for over a year now. You could probably use bolts if so inclined, maybe some wheels at the end to make it easier to move around.

It cost me about $20-$30 and about an hours time to build them.

And some shots of the car up there:

I personally use 10"x10" solid wood ramps. An 8' length cut on a bias with a chain saw, produced two with about 3' of ramp and 2' of level. Twenty years of service and 8 cars so far.

I would be a little leary of open wood construction.

Edit: Didn't see above post. Looks good, and solid (albeit layered) construction. I just tip mine up and walk them back to garage.

p.s. Nice rear wheels. Thanks for great pics. Stairway to Heaven comes to mind, but hopefully there will be no need for oil changes there.

I was in the middle of a brake job, and getting ready for an AutoX school, so I wanted to finish off the tires on the stock wheels.

If you look close, you'll see nice shiny plated rotors on the front, and the rusty stockers on the back, and of course, evidence of the oil change as well.

There are shiny slotted rotors all around now, plus the neat (light and expensive) wheels you like have returned to the car.

Wanna buy some slightly used SVT wheels and tires

BTW, I too can just pick them up and set them next to the garage. I'm really thinking of some wheels in the front and handles in the back to make handling them a bit easier. They are rather cumbersome to carry.

Aren't the lightweight aluminum one $15.00 from Autozone. And I forgot what I paid for the set of plastic ones I bought from Walmart which I still use till this day to change my oil. I mean if you got the wood and the time I understand, but the ones from autozone would be lighter and cheaper. IMHO that is.

Those metal ramps suck because unless you are driving a boat from the 80's or previous, most modern cars sit to low to drive up on them.

If you already have the metal ramps and they are too high an angle, just take a 2x6 or 2x8 about 2.5' long, put a screw through near the end, and drop the screw through the little holes in the ramp. Makes more of a shallow slope and saves your nice low car. Dad and I have been using ours for 6 years now, and they survived my 4,000 pound plus T-Bird Super Coupe.
