Hi, I heard some ford dealers f**ked up the aftermarket stereo when they did the recall. So I'm going to remove my cd before I go get mine done. But I still wonder to what extend the dealer will tear things off and if the mounting sleeve of the cd receiver will still be in the way if I don't remove it. The sleeve is a metal shell that got clinch-installed in place of a stereo head unit before you slide in the head unit. pretty hard to get it out. Someone has gone through this recall please help.
Thanks!

I just had my wiring harness recall done a few weeks back. No problems whatsoever, even with the aftermarket stereo setup.

However, unlike most other aftermarket radio gear, my Blaupunkt Nevada unit (self-installed) has the standard four holes in the face of the deck a la stock Ford unit and many other European cars (such as VW, Audi, etc.) to allow removal using the Ford factory tool or equivalent.

Also, all of the wiring is done using adapters (nothing hardwired a.k.a. soldered) so that everything can be removed in a snap using factory procedures and all factory wiring connectors and harnesses remain untouched.

Maybe that makes a difference.

Same here. I have a Sony head unit that i left in when they did mine and it still works but it does have a Factory Harness adapter too.

Had the recall, and sure no stereo problem. However, the "hot smell" is as bad or worse. Did they do anything?
