I've been way too busy myself for any fun car stuff.

As Cap'n Bart knows, I just had a set of 225/50/16 KDWs installed on my 99 SVT.

The car is currently at Campbell Ford, where they are trying to figure out, and hopefully, fix whatever caused my left front tire to wear down to almost nothing immediately after they performed a 46-point check and a wheel alignment.

I would've replaced just the one tire, but BF Goodrich could not find a 215/50/16 anywhere. They did give me an adjustment on the three that were okay, so I paid $260 for one, and $140 each for the other three, installed and balanced.

It's interesting that the tread pattern on the 225s is a bit different from the 215 size that came as OE on the car. Apparently, the 215 is the only size that has that particular pattern, which is the one you see illustrated on the tirerack.com site.

On the 225s (and all other sizes), the diagonal grooves on the outside of the tire line up much more closely with the diagonal grooves in the next section of the tire, if you know what I mean.

Anyway, they look good, and after a bit of driving around, including a ride with me and two other big guys and their golf clubs, no sign of any rubbing anywhere with the bigger size.

I think my next investment will be brakes. I don't want to spend a ton of money, but I'd like to at least find some higher-quality rotors.

Can you buy rotors that'll fit these cars just about anywhere, or would I have to order them from a speciality shop?

Campbell Ford is crappy dealership. I had many bad experiences there before I moved away. Kanata Ford is no better. In the OT area, it's best to go to a private mechanic.

Jim Licari (Bells Corners) is excellent, honest, and cheap.

be careful, they might just order you contour rotors, which are smaller...IIRC the BAT rotors are nice and cheap.

I can second this... I've not had work done on the Contour, but it is a good shop.

Cheers,

I don't think they're a crappy dealership. You may have had a problem with their service, but not likely parts or sales. I have had no significant service related problems in dealing with them, and I drive the 200km to have my SVT serviced there rather than going to the Montreal SVT dealer, whenever possible. It's impressive that they're as big as they are and yet they still do a pretty good job in dealing with the huge volume of vehicles they service. For instance, they opened up the new "Fast Lane" for quicker service visits. It helps going into any of the dealerships with a decent idea of what the car's problem is - but that's my overall experience with all Ford mechanics.

Steener can attest to Campbell's generosity in the tranny department.

I have been away on vacation and now that I'm back, have nothing interesting to say except that my car is awesome! It seems to be in its prime. My wish list now only consists of Koni struts and annual rustproofing at Krown on Catherine St..

Hope to show it off in the coming weeks with the first application of Zaino since the new paint.

Had my spark plugs done this weekend, and a set of tires 205/60 R 15 (Potenza-BridgeStone Rea90 - something like that-All seasons)put on too. I could have changed the spark plug wires, but decided not too. Them seemed to be OK. The wire boots were a hard time to get out, but eventually they all come up. Anyways, I still watch this forum, but a little slow these days. I used Bosh +4 spark plugs, any problems off the top of your head in this is a bad type of spark plug let me know.
