When I was at your garage I remember you using spring compressors(I believe that is what they are called) to get the springs to lower so you could put the top hats on the spring/struts. I was wondering if you knew where I could pick those up in St. Louis. Are these available at any parts store or do I need to go to a specialty store? Thanks.

I was also wondering how your 3L s/c project was going. Hope everything is going well.

Matt

I think he has similar ones to mine that I got from Harbor Freight tools. I got mine online and delivered to my house for around $15 IIRC. http://www.harborfreight.com/

Any local Auto Parts chain i.e O'Reily's, Auto Zone, etc. should have these available to rent.

I rented my set at Auto Zone, basically you buy them on a Credit Card, and then return them when you are done.

Be sure if you rent or buy, that the type you use have a safety band in case the clamps 'let go'.If you are using uprated springs etc take even more care...if one lets go when compressed it will 'tear your face off' if you get hit with it.I'd suggest that maybe have a shop with an air or hydraulic compressor swap out the struts / springs once you have them off the car....my 2 cents

The springs can also put a hole in the side of the garage. Had that happen at my dad's house once when the spring compressor let go and the safety clips popped off. The safety hooks gafe us time to get the "F" out of the way though! eek

Taking time to find the best/cheapest compareable pistons for the job. I think Rick just got the engine ready to send out to Terry this week. It'll be a little while since he's not in a huge rush to complete the project this time.
