Round 2 of the Heart of Illinois Autosound Challenge will be Saturday, July 20th in Eureka, IL. The event will be in the park at Eureka Lake.

Three independent formats of judging will be offered. Car Show, Sound Quality, and SPL. Entry fees are $30 for any 1 format, $50 for any 2 formats and $60 for all three formats. Trophies will be given for 1st-3rd place in each class, plus there will be several "Best of" trophies awarded as well. As before, spectating and hanging out with friends in the park is free.

Registration will be from 8 AM to 11 AM, with the car show judging and sound quality judging starting hopefully around 10AM. The SPL first pass will start between 11 and 11:30, followed by a short break for lunch and then the SPL second pass should be completed by 2:00 or 2:30.

This event has been sanctioned by SLAP, the Sound, Looks and Performance Association. www.slapshow.com

Door prizes have been and continue to be collected for this event. The door prize list so far includes:

10 free spaghetti dinners at Fazzoli's
5 free haircuts at The Hair Cuttery
12 T-shirts donated by JVC
3 T-shirts donated by Mangold Ford in Eureka

Door prize items will also be provided by the Mitek Corporation (MTX/Xtant/Coustic/Street Wires) and by JL Audio. I do not know what these will be yet, but they said they will send some things (probably will not be product, but you never know). Tickets for the door prize drawings are free with paid entry to at least 1 format of the show. (3 tickets for 1 format; 10 tickets for 2 formats; 20 tickets for three formats)

I will continue to gather items over the next week as well to get more non-t-shirt items and products.

Also, the factory Demo vehicle from Xtant is scheduled to be on hand. It is a Saturn Vue loaded with Xtant product and was selected as one of the best demo vehicles at the 2002 Consumer Electronics show in Las Vegas this past January. Additional performance accessories include 20" Konig wheels, Konig strut tower braces, Suspension Techniques springs (lowering the vehicle 4?), StreetGlow neon and strobes, StreetScene grille inserts, Gibson Performance Exhaust, and Matworks floormats. Please visit www.xtant.com for additional information and photos.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

So basically, for most of us STL CEG-ers if we wanted to participate in the CarShow only .... it would be $30 ???? do you have a list of classes? I am in a fairly descent sized car club and we hit nearly every big show, but i'm pretty sure 30 bux for an entry is out of the price range... !!

$30 is the standard fee for a local SLAP-sanctioned event from coast to coast. In many areas of the country there are typically 20-40 cars entered at the local events. However, in the Atlanta, GA area the "local" shows draw over 100 cars on a regular basis even when there are numerous other shows to choose from because they like the format and the trophies are nice.

Here is what is on the scoresheet for judging a SLAP event:

(Scale: 1=needs improvement; 2=average; 3=above average; 4=superb; 5=perfect)

Membership and/or SLAP logo (0, 1 or 2 pts)
Presentation & Display (1-5 pts) (you give verbal presentation of car to the judge)
Under Carriage (1-5 pts)
Engine Compartment (1-5 pts)
Performance Enhancement (1-5 pts)
Exterior (1-5 pts)
Interior (1-5 pts)
Trunk/Hatch/Bed/etc (1-5 pts)
Sound System (1-5 pts) (OEM systems are fine...)
Bonus Points (0-10 pts) (points awarded for unique ideas, applications, extraordinary effort, etc)

That's it.

There are three divisions used: Stock, Advanced, and Ultimate

Stock classes have:
- stock body & engine
- Stock Suspension
- No Body Kits
- No major vehicle modifications
- Bolt-on parts only

Advanced classes have:
- Stock Body and Engine
- Modified suspension
- bolt-on body kits
- Extensive bolt-on parts
- paint customization

Ultimate classes have:
- Extensive body modifications
- Extensive engine modifications
- Extensive vehicle modifications

Within each of these, the entrants are classified by type of vehicle. These are the types identified (can be combined if not sufficient numbers in each class):

Acura
Antique
Classic Car
Dodge Neon
Dodge-other
European
Ford
GM
Honda Accord
Honda Civic
Honda CRX
Honda Prelude
Isuzu
Mazda
Mitsubishi
Nissan
Replica
Street Rod
SUV
Truck-Full/Mid
Truck-Mini
Toyota
Van
VW

It would be great to have you guys come up.

Please let me know if you have any additional questions or need directions.

Well now that I have a little bit more information, the entry fee doesen't sound quite as bad..... It seems like the show has a very complete judging system.

I've already passed along the information.... I think we're just waiting on the next meeting to make the vote...

Thanks for the additional information...

Jason
