I've been pretty much a naturally aspirated fan to date . . . probably a little intimidated by all that is required for supercharging. My question regarding adding a supercharger to a Contour 2.5L is the block and reciprocating assembly. To add much pressure, I've always thought that a heavier block, forged steel crank & rods, ceramic rings, S.S. valves, larger radiator, etc. is necessary for dependable service. What I haven't seen to date for the Contour is parts to heavy up the bottom end of the engine and the block itself. Any help in getting pointed in the right direction would be appreciated.

Out of all the contours with the blower, they all have handled the power with no internal upgrades, except for one.
That car had motor failure ue to bad detonation, due to improperly tuning it, trying to run without the vortech spec chip.
The problem with the vortech is the jackshaft assembly. A good note is that all the updated jackshafts have not had a problem with the splines stripping out.
Hope this helps.

If you are seriously thinking of getting a Vortech, My advice is to wait a couple months before purchasing. I can't really give any details why, aside from something is in the works that will make the wait worth it. -Mark

I'm beginning to wonder about the turbo kit. I was going to go with the vortech myself until I realized how many people were having trouble with it, but if they get all the bugs worked out AND add an aftercooler, I may have to give it consideration. I'd hate to throw away the money I already put down on the turbo, but if they can't deliver then I guess I will have to cut my losses and go with the Vortech. Or trade it in on an Evo.

I've always thought that a heavier block, forged steel crank & rods, ceramic rings, S.S. valves, larger radiator, etc. is necessary for dependable service. Basically a good idea to do much of that however, the Duratec has been fairly impressive in standing up to abuse so far. It has a reasonably strong rib reinforced pressure cast aluminum block & a forged steel crank already but may benefit from some forged rods, low CR forged pistons, and upgraded bearings none of which are cheap. The SVT heads flow very well, valves are stainless but coating them would be a good idea. With the above upgrades, good custom tuning, attention to oil/cooling systems (as well as tranny, differential, & driveshaft upgrades) I would think 350-400 crank HP may be tolerated just fine..

Lots of stuff happening right now, and it is ALL good stuff. -Chris
