does any one know if a 3.0 conversion can be performed on a 2nd gen probe gt?

The Probe's 2.5L V6 (it is a 2.5 right?) is NOT a Duratec, so I'd say no.

yes you are right it is a 2.5 but it is the Mazda sourced V6 not the Ford design. They are fundamentally different. (the mazda motor is NOT of the Duratec family) You may be able to swap a duratec family drivtrain in but it would not be really worth the effort.
it would require the whole drivetrain -
ie $$$$$$$$$$$$$$

y not just order the jap spec mazda engine. its $1200. my friend is gathering money for this. its a 200 hp engine.

Keep the mazda engine, it is a good engine. Be happy that you don't have a Ford engine.
