Hey, You callin' me a Wussy mad
Keep in mind that 200RWHP will be 230ish at the crank so we're talking less than 10 lbs/hp. I fully expect that we'd be able to run 14 second 1/4 miles without much trouble with that power/weight ratio. I also just finished a warmed over engine in my Datsun and don't really want to get any deeper into this one than manifolding. Maybe if I can stumble on a set of SVT cams at a reasonable price. Still, if all out power was the goal we'd have gone small block. It's been done so there's not much to figure out and there is no better hp/$ ratio to be had. I can build $10/hp small blocks all day long. The goal is to put a modern DOHC EFI engine with good reliability and performance at a minimum of cost. 175hp is about as much as you can get out of the stock engine and it ain't cheap to do. The TR's bottom end is also notoriously weak. Bone stock the Duratec will beat up on a hot Triumph motor so we should be pretty fast... For wussy's anyway smile

He sells the LS motors and knows the Jags so I take his word for it. I'd say the difference between the S-Type and X-Type engine is the cooling and intake setup. There is a exploded view of the S-Type motor in the Pics and video section posted by Chris Hightower, you may want to look at. From looking at the older(2000-2001) specs for the S-Type V6 at edmunds.com they say it has 240HP which would put you right where you wanted to be. You can look at Car-parts.com for an engine, but if You've already got the LS it might not be worth the time.

If you did want to get the S-Type, I might know where you could get rid of the LS engine. wink

Im not saying your wussy- im saying that you can get much more than 200 WHP from a 3L - around 240 is normalish for 2.5 SVT heads and cams on the 3L.

I MIGHT have a set of SVT cams to sell you soon- depending on how my own 3L build goes.

Also you might want to contact Kinetics racing- they build race Duratecs- they can grind you any cam you want.

Sounds good. I'll look up Kinetics too.
As for the Jag engines, If we had more money to dump into the project we'd go that route and may in the future but the Taurus Duratec we have will most likely be the motivation for this one. It was just too good a deal to pass on. First things first though. I need to get the engine in the car and running before I start trying to tinker too much. I'm hoping to test fit the engine in the next week or two.

Justin Rempe,
The Jag motor has variable cam timing on the intake cams. I believe that the S-Type also has a variable length intake manifold.

Brian Hollands,
Both the LS and S-Type have a completely different coolant manifold setup than the Taurus. The coolant flows into and out of the engine at the front. Not at the rear as in the Taurus and all other Duratecs.
