Thank YOU. Call me an over-sensitive mama's boy (if you're a total jack*** ), but I take offense at the kind of audacity that it takes to assume that most of us don't have the money already. I do. I'm just not stupid enough to drive up to a mechanics shop (no offense, Terry, I don't mean you), tell him to get started and let him surprise me with a quote at the end of the service period.

All I need is a mechanic knowledgeable enough to know how long the job he's doing is going to take, is willing to communicate with me and isn't afraid to deal with a novice.

It's looking more and more like I'm going to do this 3.0L thing myself. It's not like I don't have the time.

Again, thank you. I'll take out a loan if I need to. I'm smart enough and quite capable of getting the resources I need to get what I want and I'm not cheap. I'll pay for what I ask for.

What I'm looking at right now is $700 for another 3L block (I already sold one for a profit, since I was kept waiting so long ), $595 for a Quaife, about $750 worth of MTX-75 work, $600 for forged pistons, $900 for connecting rods and about $600 in the remaining parts. The block/rods/pistons/whatever would come in a neat little package. All I want is a labor estimate on putting it all together. I can drop the parts off and pick the parts up myself. I don't live far from the shop I'm taking them to. I don't need the quote publically. The shop I'm talking about has done numerous 3.0L conversions (or so claims to) and should thereby know about how long it takes to swap the top of an SVT motor to the bottom of a 3.0 and drop it in with a Quaife. Great, now I'm ranting. Sorry 'bout that, CEG.

ok here is a cure all-
Call Kinetics racing- They are the guys who build the touring car motors- they build em so powerfull they peel the teeth off the gear clusters in the tranny- I talked to chris (at kinetics) and I asked him if it would be ok to refere people to him- he said sure-

so- if you want any Duratec work done and terry or brad cant/wont get it done for you (call them first- SUPPORT YOUR CEG!! )then call chris- he will do anything- custom cams of any grind spec you want- all the head work you could dream about- custom oilpan ect ect- they use all new internals in the motors as well and im sure he can do that too- BUT remember that they are a RACE motor shop so all they have done in the past is race stuff and you may have to play a bit to find Ideal street specs for stuff- also this implies the cost issue again- they will gladly quote you a price on anything- BUT again they are a race shop so their work is NOT cheap! AKA we buy 427 Ford FE motors from them= about $20,000 each- BUT they are the smoothest nicest awsomest motors we have ever worked with- they come fully dynoed and optimized ectect. about 500HP and 600lbft. FYI- I would go with Kinetics if I could- (and I may indeed soon)

All I wanted guys was a ball park, a range, not to shop around but to use for planning, saving.
