I got a written quote from Shoshop a couple months back when I was looking at a 3L. I think it as $4300 total, including 3L shortblock, accusump oil kit, Clutch kit and the rest in labour. It was over $2000 in labour alone!!! eek
And that still wouldn't have fixed my 2nd gear trans problem and got a Quaife installed.

Terry's right, you have to pay if you want to play! (I just wish I had the $$$ to go with my "rich" taste mad ) haha.

I know what Terry is saying. I just can't shell out all the money all at once, gotta take it step by step. Does that mean I think I can make my car a lot better for $1k? No! Right now, I have gathered about $3k of parts over the past few months, all of them are sitting in my house waiting for the rest of the stuff (about $2k more) before I put them into the car. So following the "You can't pay you can't play" logic, does that means I can't play since I can't shell out the whole $5k all at once?

Sorry for the rant here, but I hate the phrase YOU HAVE TO PAY TO PLAY!!!! Can anyone just provide estimates! I mean NONE of us have a unlimited budget, but still give me something to plan for!! I hate when I ask "how much for a 300HP crate 3L, and the awnser is YOU HAVE TO PAY TO PLAY!" I mean hwhat ever happened to this:

3L-$500
Rods-$960
bearings-$600
P&P,3L valves -$1500
Cam grinds-$700
Ported LIM, UIM-$500
70mm TB-$200
Engine manamgement-$400
Tras work-$2000
etc, etc

I mean you know I'm good for money,Terry your sitting on some of my money, Brad you are too. I don't think that asking how much a AWD conversion would cost is un reasonable either, I mean $10000, 20000, what, throw me a fricken bone here! smile

Anyway for anyone that wants to know how much it will cost for a HO NA 3L PM me because I can give you all the details of mine that will be going in, in a month or so.

Sorry I feel better now smile smile

Terry PM me on those cam specs because I need to work out something for my head set-up, thank you.

I do not understand why people expect price quote for custom stuff that has NEVER been done. Not like a basic motor swap or stuff in the service manual. NOBODY has built an AWD SVT, a turbo SVT, or a 3L 300 HP SVT crate motor...(David Z is close but it was special case - he had Touring car heads/cams from Ford Racing in his pocket..who knows what they REALLY cost ). In addition to not knowing precise amount of labor, you would have to negotiate numerous custom parts from suppliers. I think it would involve considerable TIME to estimate a price. Then you put it out on the net in response to a loose inquiry where the entire world could then hold you to such a "quote".

You know what I mean, I'm not talking about quote to the penny, just generalize, hell put a disclaimer on it if you care to. Brad does do a good job on his 3L prices, and that is all that is required. Use the going rate for a P&P/cams/etc. People know these generalizations and i think that they are losing a lot of sales by not giving a ball park, "You have to pay to play" scares a lot of people that may have the means to afford a $4000 upgrade.

I'm not wanting to start any love loss here just making an obseravation. smile

The cost of building a motor is also a function of timing. If you want JE pistons they make them in lots. If your lot size is oddball you have to wait forever. Same with the rings, same with rods. My pistons were about $175.00 each, rods about $175.00 each. Stainless valves about $24.00 per valve and on and on. If ten people all got together and said lets all build the exact same hipo engine where all the parts could be ordered and made at one time the cost would come down. Ie one set of cams reground $650.00 if five set the price is $550.00 see the point. There in lies the problem. Until there is enough demand for someone to make rods, pistons etc in lots big enough to bring the price down the price will seem unreasinable. Instead of us all working together to get what we all want, everyone seems to want to flame and rant. Terry will tell you that the biggest problem is people who don't have the money or ability to complete a project taking up the time of the Guys doing the work. If enough people want to build motors then a group buy set up the allow everyone to purchase parts in larger lots and one part at a time might be the answer. So if everyone is up to start to do group buys for individual parts let me know. We can do a group on rods or pistons first and set up a time schedule to complete each group buy. Be prepared it has taken almost six months for the parts to do my new motor and I am still at least a week from completion. laugh
