Check this out.........http://www.miata.net/news/v6.html
Looks like ford is trying the 3.0l duratec out in the miata.....and looks like we may be able to recruit miata lovers into the duratec fold. Hopefully some of us might convince miata owners to do this mod.....our aftermarket would then explode.

I saw a 3.0L Duratec Miata in suburban Detroit last fall. I recognized it as a 3.0L from an article in Road and Track, with a big hood scoop and some sweet red paint. It had a manufacturer's M-plate on it, so I assume it belonged to Ford. Alas, it was only a one-off made for showing off.
I doubt there will ever be a production V6 Miata.
That rumor dispelled, it is true that the 3.0L Duratec shows up in more and more cars. Unfortunately, the latest instance is in the 2003 Mazda MPV - not a whole lot of aftermarket potential there.

The U.S. version of the new Mazda 6 is going to have a 3.0L V6. Look here for info: http://media.ford.com/PRODUCTS/MODEL.CFM?VEHICLE_ID=527 If you look at the specifications, everything points toward a Duratec 3.0L. Same bore and stroke, forged crank, same bearing sizes, same valve sizes. Note the dual mass damper.

It also has S-VT too! "The Mazda 6 powertrain family will be available in some markets with a unique 3.0-liter V-6, also with S-VT and a new intake manifold." LOL!

Too bad Mazda/Ford missed the boat on this one ... the Altima is pushing over 240hp with equal to greater torque ... the 6 will be outclassed from the getgo. However, the interior of the 6 will outclass the Altima all day long ... too bad the motor is rather weak by the new standards in sport sedans these days.

but there is more to a sports sedan than horsepower. 220 hp is not bad considering that Mazda 6 will be smaller and probably much lighter than the Altima. Heck, BMW 325i make do with only 170 hp, Audi A4 3.0 only 220 hp. The Altima is just too big to be a "sports sedan" by my standards but I will admit to having a minority opinion on this matter.

I definately read somewhere that the next generation mustang will ahve a 3.0L duratech as its' base engine (215 horse). That should help our cause in terms of the aftermarket.

(hmmm) Anyone know the platform the new Mustang is using?

I think it will be using a modified version of the LS/T-bird platform.
