Will my stock Cougar return ECU work if I drop in a returnless SVT engine and swap out the rails and injectors? Or will I need to get a 98 SVT ECU?

Yep,

The only difference engine wise are the rails and lines, so if you swap in your return lines your ECU is golden.

I would say that if you get around PATS the SVT ECU would provide a little bit better fuel maps and more aggressive timing. So ideally swap out the lines and get a SVT return style ECU.

Excellet smile Well I have a Apexi for some fuel adjustment so that will help with the injectors. I may have a programed burned or switch to the Greddy if everything gets worked out. Hey Kinger you have to come up for the install. It would be a blast to hang out and check each others cars out. I have some eibachs, crossdrilled/slotted rotors, LSD, Freedom brace, and some new engine mounts to install. It will be a fun weekend. smile

Later,
Chris

Depends when I get some return injectors. Anyone want to swap some return ones for some returnless ones. smile Otherwise when I get them it will be the closest weekend. smile I will definately let you know.

On a side note I got the name of a guy that port and polishes heads and I may think about having the SVT ones done before I put the engine in. I am not sure if it will be worth my time or not.

Thanks,
Chris

If you do use the SVT ECU and get around the PATS, let me know..please! laugh
I'm facing the same thing. I have an SVT engine and the computer for it but if I use it, it won't work until I get around the PATS. Obviously I would rather use that then my SE computer as whats the point in getting the SVT engine if it wont run like one! (i tell myself this). So PLEASE let me know. Thanks!

Actually there was a topic over on NECO that said the PATS system is a snap to get around. I was told that you can put it into program mode by unlocking your doors 8 times and then it will program it to the key you have. I thought this was for the new key pads though so I have no idea. Ask around on NECO and you should be able to figure it out. Otherwise couldn't we just tape the key needed for it in the car so it still recieves a signal and still use the original key for the car?

My problem though is that I don't have the orignal keys for it. I just bought the engine which came with the PCM (the metal case under the clove box with the chip in it), and all the "solutions" I keep hearing to get around the PATS involves the original keys!! confused

What can I do?!?!?!?!?!?!

Hmmm that really sucks but if I end up switching to a 98 SVT computer I will need to know to. I will look around and if I figure it out I will let you know. Otherwise can't you just bring you computer into Ford and have them make the key for it?

Can't you order new keys for YOUR car with the ECU code from your new ECU? Might set ya back a few bucks but at least she'll fire when ya crank it! :p
