Hey guys, I'm going to attempt to build my 3L project and I have a set of SVT heads and cams and my plan is to go with 3L valves and P&P and enlarge the primaries to 36mm and the secondaries to 37mm. Then follow those diameters up through the UIM to a 70mm TB. What I'm wondering is that I'll probably have over $1000 in head work when I'm done and I will have more HP then a std 3L swap but I think it was Jiako that swapped SVT cams into the 3L heads and he was pulling 197FWP, why? Its essentially a stock 3L 200hp/200tq with slightly upgraded cams and a SVT PCM, is that what gives and extra roughly 40hp? I mean that would mean that if I have a taurus and I swapped cams and a PCM (provided you could work around the auotmatic thing) it would be worth 240hp. Is this a gimmick that Ford used to hold down the hp?? At any rate I'll probably still go the 2.5 head route since I have them but just wondering since you can get brand new 3L heads for about $500. Thanks! -Jesse

Not to mention you know people with 3 liter heads sitting all over in the garage... BTW, I think you need to go read some of Warmonger's 2.5 head/3 liter valve numbers. Around 214 IIRC. Add some custom ground cams you your ported and big valved heads and, who knows, you may be close to David Z numbers...

He he if they had SVT cams in them we'd be in buisness Don't think you'll have to worry on this one Brad your day of pay off is coming soon!! I'll be purchasing lots and lots from ya to get this done right. Yeah I think warmonger got 214 with no exhaust, my exhaust is being re-vamped again right now and should profide little restriction for this baby. I'm hoping 210-215 FWHP, but 240 would be nice

Well, if you already have the SVT cams, dump 'em in the 3 liter heads silly! :p

That would be too easy and much more affordable, I prefer to make it twice as hard and expensive if I can  Actually think a guy loses alot of power going from 11.2:1 to 10.0:1? Assuming the valves and stuff are the same. E-mail me what you want for your 3L heads silly Brad.

Have the prices come down on a new set of 3L heads??? The last I checked (B. Jenkins), they were about $700.

Nope sorry, when I was searching the previous posts it was actually you that had listed that price, but you probably went on to say that, that didn't include valves or something and I didn't read far enough along. MY BAD!! Sorry for the wishful thinking

Kinger - actually, the heads were about $252 a piece at one time (late last year???) but by the time I got around to purchasing them, I think the LH Head had almost doubled in price. For what ever reason, Ford decided to raise the price. Double check, but I think they are somthing like $252 & $478 now. These heads do include valves.

actually i think warmonger got 217 wit the exhaust droped...but he did get roughly the same hp as i did with it on. But he also dropped the compression of the engine by making the combustion chamber larger. he calculated 10.3:1 ratio. So essentialy we have close to the same setup since he put the 3L valves in. Just that he had a little more work to do than me.
