The 3L/SVT hybrid engine deal comes complete with wiring harnesses and PCM. With that, I might replace my EEC-IV system with the OBDII system so I don't have to splice fuel injector wiring harness and take more advantage of the SVT. But I can think of some problems. The late model PCM has PATS, and mine doesn't. How can I either bypass that, or program some keys to work with it?
Now, the wirings on the inside should be quite similar right? By that, I mean the wires for ignition, cruise control, etc... Would there be major difference between the connector on the instrument cluster too?

PATS is going to be the biggest issue. You'll either have to have a dealer program keys for the PCM, or get a chip programmed to disable PATS. Not sure about the cluster, but you'll have to buy more O2 sensors Two more at $85 a piece. I'm sure there's more, but can't think of anything else this early (west coaster here). -Lance

You'll need to get a PATS antenna and the wiring that goes from it to the PCM.
You'll also need at least two working keys from the old SVT to program new ones. Or, you can get the ignition cylinder and at least one key and you're set.

Why would I only need one key if I can get the cylinder? I remember some people got remote starter installed, how did they do it without having the key in? Maybe I can bypass it that same way? http://www.powercallsirens.com/fordstarteroptions.shtml That page has something they called "Ford Factory PATS Bypass Modules", I wonder if they sell just the bypass module? I also read up on http://www.fordf150.net/howto/patskey.htm how do I tell if that '98 SVT PCM I'm going to get can program a key with Method B? I'm sure those folks who install remote starters know how to disable PATS. You might ask them about how you would disable the PATS functionality.
You might even call the tech support line of one of those companies and pretend you are installing their starter...

It wont be a problem defeating the PATS system, but since all you have is the PCM and not the cylinder, it may be harder, any shop that does remote starts can get you a module for this. How you have to utilize this will be up to what parts you have to work with.

I hope I can just buy an antenna so I can hard wire a coil from possibly one of the original keys (if the guy still have them) to the antenna.

The way I "bypass" the PATS module for remote starters is by a module that is programed as a third key. I don't actually disable PATS completly, only while the car is remote started. The module in order to work needs both keys, because that enables the learn routine for the PATS module in the car: key 1 in - turn on - key 1 out, key 2 in - turn on - key 2 out, the aftermarket module then sends a program like the key does and the PATS recieves that as the third key. Now I do know the dealer can program a second key if lost but the have another process then above(that I believe that the dealer can only perform), in order to defect the PCM PATS program mode. If you can get a single key you can also take out the PATS chip in the key and install around the PATS ring for a permanent fix, disabling the PATS completely - forever.
- just my thoughts, anything just let me know.
