I did get the motor free of charge. and since Im a tech at a ford dealership, I get all parts just 10% over what they pay for them. I wont have a problem getting the block prepped (your right though, hydrolocked motors are hard to get back together properly). but im just really worried about fuel delivery. I guess this means that I should have not sold my superchip. since chips rewrite the PROM, will they still provide enough fuel in closed loop? or should I go with the apex-i. I have all the stock values, and service manuals on hand. But nothin beats experience.

Run the Taurus PCM for the correct fuel & spark map.

Ok I just got done tearing the motor down, and guess what I found. Catasrophic failure in cylinder 2. The entire piston is shatterd. but the crank, and other pistons are fine!?! It's weird there are no serious scars in any of the cylinder walls, even #2. only the piston shatterd. The rod, pin, bearing cap, and bearings are perfect. Not a scratch, or sign af warpage on any peices. The head over cylinder #2's bank was damaged slightly but not to bad. A guy at work does good head porting. Hope it's salvageable, seeing as that alluminum is hard to work on. Gonna need new valves too. now keep in mind this motor only has 200 something miles on it. so im perplexed as to what caused this. The whole crank case was filled with a collant, and oil mix. I need more time, and daylight to better asses it's condition. But all in all I feel more optimistic now than when I got it.

I would ask Zncoug over at NECO about a problem affecting 01 duratecs. He works for ford and has some inside info you MUST have before you go further. Id post but I was asked not to talk about it. See if he will tell you what happend... pistons dont just blow up... there is another force at work and you need to know about it before you rebuild that engine.

Will the Taurus PCM run in the Contour??? I figured it wouldn't since none of our fellow CEGers w/ 3.0L have done it yet.

This was just a quick reminder that at Ford, quality is job number one.

I know what happend to the motor. One of the intake valves in piston #2 broke, and fell into the cylinder. It then smashed the piston, while poking a hole into the head. and puncured one of the main collant galleys. Then it filled the whole block with collant. Im pretty sure the rest of the bottom end is ok. It's going to the machine shop to get checked out soon. but if there is a problem with the valve train in these motors. then ill just have to use the SVT heads.

I got my engine without an pcm, so I will be using my svt pcm. I was wondering if you could list the potential problems with that.

I was wondering if raising the fuel pressure could help compensate for full throttle or high rpm fuel starvation. Do you think that is a viable option or even necessary?

Using a Taurus PCM would be a bad idea. Since they only came in auto, it will probably give you a CEL, if it even runs. APEX or the EEC tuner would be a better idea.
