i have a 2000 svt tour, and it is on its second set of cv joints...when i had the stock rims on it, it never had this problem..i am wondering if the 18 inch rims i have on there would affect the cv joints any...i hope not..cause i aint gonna get rid of the rims..=) hehe...another question...where is a good place to take the car to fix this problem..i have had bad experiences with both westway ford and lee jarmon...any help will be much appreciated...

Claudette,

I took a look at the photos from your web page. Was the car lowered?

I have seen instances where changing the wheels/suspension package can alter the center of gravity on the wheel assemblies. This can lead to two possible problems
1. Outer CV joint failure, or
2. Wheel Bearing failure.

One instance was so bad on a Sunfire GT about 6 years ago that had centerline wheels. The entire wheel/hub assembly broke off.

Good luck,
david

Lowering and unequal 'split' of the offset with wide wheels will increase loading on hub bearings and CV joints. The optimum position for the center line of the rim is in line with the center line of the hub bearings, the optimum position of the driveshaft and cv joints is horizontal.
