The car is a 2000 SVT with 22,000 miles. Original tires (getting low on tread), air cleaner, plugs
and wires etc. I run 5W30 Valvoline conventional and I have Mobil 1 ATF in the trans.

I went to Milan Dragway on 4-10-02. It was 55-60 degrees and sunny and low humidity. I did four consecutive passes with no cool down. My best run was the fourth:

60 ft 2.372
330 ft 6.492
1/8 et 9.888
1/8 mph 72.69
1000 ft 12.789
1/4 et 15.262
1/4 mph 91.06

I think I did a good job of launching the car though. I left just off idle with a smooth clutch uptake. I had some spin but no wheel hop. I grabbed some serious gears, no grunching.

Tire pressures were 40 psi. I didn't take anything out of the car. The jack and spare and some other small things were in the car.

If I could pull a 2.0 60 foot time I'd be in the 14's.

Here's what else I had in mind that's cheap and easy:

K&N

Mobil 1 engine oil

Energy Suspension engine mount

Cranking up the rear tire pressure (less rolling resistance)

Cranking up the rear springs with those things they sell for sagging springs, so less load is transferred off of the front tires

Dry icing the intake

Any suggestions for front tire pressure or launching or cheap mods or anything else?

Thanks

Good numbers.

Work on your launch...a 2.1 to 2.2 60 ft would put you at 15 flat.

Take your tire pressure down to about 20 to absorb driveline lash and prevent wheel hop.

Mobil 1 synthetic is a great oil..won't add hp but still use it for great performance and worry free lubrication.

K&N filter is good for a few hp...maybe a tenth in the quarter...maybe.

FOR GOD'S SAKE dont DRY ICE your intake! that thing is aluminum. Aluminum is very brittle. You'll crack that SOB in a heartbeat. DO use regular ice though...two bags work great, and push your car through the staging lanes. This is good for about .2 to .3 sec...I documented that last drag season. Just let the car have enough heat in it to have the oil flowing nicely and have the timing fully advance.

Sounds like you're on your way to a 14 this month.

I've heard that a tenth off your 60' time is worth 2 tenths at the quarter mark.

Try launching at about 3000. Just try not to get too much wheel hop or else the diff might give it up.

Good times. That is about what my best was before the vortech. I'll add you to the 1/4 mile registry wink

A 2.1 60' sounds rather optimistic, especially considering you ran a 2.37 last time.

SVeeT - is your car green? if so... i saw it resting in the grass when i got there. i would say 2.1 is only wishful thinking at milan... it's just too much of an ice rink for any good 60ft times.

i am offically a troll... so take my information and advice with a grain of salt.

The only problem with regular ice is that it melts and leaks onto the ground. I saw the starter turn away a 5.0 that had been using regular ice because water was dripping from it.

My car is green. I was going to do a couple more runs after letting the car cool down but it got way too busy. A couple of friends of mine were waiting almost an hour between runs.

Milan is a pretty slick track. I wonder if Lapeer Dragway is better?

Well, I am not very knowledgable of the SVT, but a 2.1 seems optimistic at ANY track, unless slicks are used. If I could get a 2.1 in my SHO (more torque and HP) then I would be looking a 14.5 in the face, but I do not plan on that happening anytime soon.

BTW, a .1 reduction in your 60' more roughly equates to a .15 reduction in your E.T., not .2. (of course, it varys widely from car to car when taking into consideration HP and weight and a myriad of other factors, but for the FWD bunch in the low 15's, .15 is a good averaged estimate)

Yes Lapper is better as far as Speed goes. I hear Milan is very hard to pull a good time. I have gone to lapeer before in my SHO and I was happy with the times. The track is out in the sticks and its about 1/4 the size of Milan but it will give you many chances to run.

I have been to Lapeer before but just to watch a friend in his Chevelle. The pits are dirt which sucks but the track looked fine.

2.1 60 foot is extremely optimistic for any track.

2.2X is great.
2.3X is good.
2.4X is normal

I've only seen 2 slips/cars with 2.0X 60' times.

One had drag slicks and a Quaife.

The other was Brad's SE with the torque strap and a few other tricks.

How did you launch?
RPM level? Tire spin? Clutch slip?

High tires pressures are good.

36 in front and 40 in back is what I run at the track. You don't want to go too high in the front or you start to lose contact patch.
