Hey folks,
I just got ground controls and koni's installed on my SVT, and now the rear end clunks badly when it goes over bumps. My mechanic says it's because there are no isolators like in the stock suspension, and this is not uncommon in setups they've seen on mustangs, but I wanted to check on this. Can others confirm if they got clunking after installing this stuff? I have no sway bars or tower braces, only the new shocks/coilovers. Anyone got an idea what's going on here?

The biggest error made when fitting after market/ lowered suspension is that the existing suspension bushes/links are not unbolted to let bushes sit in the 'neutral' position with the lower set up.This places added torsional & radial loads on the stock bushes and can rip them out.The worse part for this is the rear stab bar links, the small upper rubber bush is weak to start with.None of the bush thru bolts should be tightened until the the full weight of the vehicle is on the suspension............ wink

BTW, this is not clunking when I'm accelerating laterally, this is when I go over bumps, and some of the clunks are pretty horrific. I'll be taking the car back to my mechanic this morning, hopefully he'll figure out what is wrong.

Dude, lateral acceleration is cornering man :p I just thought that was when people got clunking from the sway bar brackets and stuff.

Sorry, lame humor attempt frown

Can you reproduce it by just bouncing the rear suspension manually? Maybe you could better localize it that way.

Nope, I can't do that. The clunks are generally when the rear suspension drops quickly. Fast bumps, or drops in surface level and suchlike.
