FastTrack Performance is looking to design a rear strut tower brace for Contours/Mystiques. We already have a bar out for cougars that is getting quite good reviews. Click here to see a review of our bar in a Cougar. What we need is someone with a Contour or Mystique in the Milwaukee area that would be willing to take a couple hours out of your weekend so we can develop a bar for your cars. The rear strut towers on your cars are curved, vs on a cougar where they have a large flat piece of metal coming off them. If you are interested in helping us out (and recieving a free rear strut tower brace in return) please email me at nick@fasttrackperformance.net

Thanks.

What Contour would you like? IIRC, the SVT's rear struts are closer together than other models.

Are you saying the strut towers themselves are closer together? Or just the struts?

The Contour's strut towers are about 30mm farther apart than the Cougar's. That's why the Cougar ST200 rear strut tower brace doesn't fit the Contour. Cool bar though.

Moved this thread to the "Suspension" section. smile

That "metal stuff" is the strut tower. A rear strut tower bar is meant to keep the strut towers from flexing. You don't try to keep the struts from flexing. If you do, you start popping struts like what happens with the SHO Shop bar.

Building on what chris said....
In the most basic terms possible, the bar helps to keep the car's structure from bending or flexing. Specificall in the area of the strut towers where cornering/twisting forces are high.

One thing i can promise you all, is that you will get O flex from the rear strut towers. This is one of the most rigid componets on any car. And the only purpose a rear strut bar can & will ever serve is purly aesthetic. wink
